I know others amongst you have already drooled and commented, but this deserves another look.

Lovely. Absolutely lovely. I can even forgive the DIY gears.
With all your talk about MGs, the second image confused me a little eek...

I said it's a slow car.
You said no it isn't.

Now you're listing a whole bunch of reasons why it's a slow car. hehe
tongue out
I feel responsible for posting the so called near perfect car in the first place.
Don't worry, some people need more bhp to make up for areas where they are lacking, others are more secure biggrin

The XJ6 seems a good car, did it sell at auction in March this year for more money than current asking price!???

"Just one more thing" wink

Assuming it was the seller who bought it at auction for £4704 + fees (£5174), why would they be selling it just four months later for £4400?

Not sure if it’s in with the rules of the topic but the next Kings Lynn classic car auction is not far off --> http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/en/classic-auct...

Lots are “Estimate TBC” or way out of our price range but some interesting stuff in thread budget - a Bentley, MG Metro and Midget amongst them.

Let’s go left field with a 1985 Mitsubishi camper with a £2.5 to 3.5k estimate

Would it not need an initial one to be registered though? Never looked in to it as my car is a '61 and would be MOT'd anyway for my peace of mind!

Good golly, Miss Molly, there's some nice cars there. I'm interested to see what the M Coupe goes for. I know of some that have been bought for 3x the estimate, but with 1/3 the miles.

Found this ôn ebay, minus some of the silly mods there's a very pretty and unusual car! Not a lot to Type 3 VW's around and kept in stock condition it will be even more unusual. Well under the 5k budget also.

I'd say it's over priced and is in need of a resto. The rear wings are fked, and they're expensive and hard to come by. The sills look like they're on their way out and the pan looks like it was patched by Stevie Wonder. Type 3's are cool, I've got a Brazilian market only one coming over from Sao Paulo, but not that one!

This one looks pretty straight

This Fastback is looks nice and solid too

The E30 was not marketed as a comfort oriented saloon. If it was, it failed as that in the back at least because it was cramped. But it wasn't. It was marketed as the ultimate driving machine. And while the hot hatches may have been more popular in the UK, in SA the saloon versions were more popular, like the Jetta and Opel Monza /Vauxhall Belmonte. And the Giulietta and Alfetta.
I suspect you mis-typed here as the Monza had nothing at all in common with the Belmont - which if memory serves correctly was a booted Astra? The Monza was a lovely bit of rwd kit

Actually they used the Monza name on FWD cars like the Bellmont in other markets

That is correct. Our Vauxhalls were Opels. The Astra was a Kadett. The Belmont was a Monza, until the next generation when the hatchback remained a Kadett and the booted version was called Astra. We didn't get Cavaliers at all.

The booted versions of hatchbacks in SA, i.e the Corollas, Monzas /Astras and Jettas (which was a Jetta...) were seen as the luxury or executive versions of the cars, so if you wanted a hot VW you bought the Golf GTI or a Kadett GSi. If you were an up and coming executive you got the Jetta CLi or Monza GLi which had the engine from the hot hatch but all the toys, leather interior and so on. They were more expensive. Or you bought a 3 series. Sierra and Sapphires did well there too, with the Essex V6 as the top model. Same thing: Sporty model was a Sierra XR6 hatchback and exec model was a Sapphire Ghia, with a boot of course. The missing one is Alfa, who closed their SA factory in 1985 through sanctions. They never replaced the Giulietta with the 75 there. At that point the only way to buy a new Alfa in SA was a personal import. I have read that SA was Alfa's biggest market outside of Italy, and I often wonder just how much closing that factory and losing those sales contributed to their decline and the Fiat takeover.
