I thought these suffered the terrible rust of that era Merc more than most. Was it on here that someone bought one and spent well over it's purchase price keeping on top of the rust? Can't remember the outcome but I suspect it involved bankruptcy and divorce wink

Love these though because they look great, nice size and just enough power. Not bad sounding either if not quite as vocal and aggressive as more recent models.

I'm no modern car fanatic, but the last C63 sounded properly rude in such glorious way that it became entirely acceptable. And compared to the latest "stereo-enhanced" ste,it cannot be comende highly enough.

Not that the C43 isn't ace however.

Obviously it's a bit crap, but it's almost fun in a Germanic sort of way. Perhaps.

I love the way the PH classifieds pre-fills the tyre kicker TXT for me:

I am interested in your Volkswagen New Beetles. Please can you contact me to discuss further?
It's like those dodgy dogging Internet sites that pre-fill the witty, unintelligible pick up lines.

Or a bit crap in a lazy stereotyping Top Gear Mexican kind of way?

I seem to remember Honest John thinking the V5 was a bit sports car like. Nippy performance, interior room compromised for looks....

I assume they're just as likely as V5 Golf IVs to bottom out the sump?

Ha! Funny you should say that - a friend of mine caused over 2000 pounds-worth of damage doing this in a big pothole in a curry-house car park on his. Not happy...

Now I like (proper) Beetle's obviously, and I hate new Beetle's.

Except the V5's as they're quite good fun. Even as stock they make a good noise and they hustle pretty well. I quite like the U.S style bumpers with the side markers they have on them as well. I'd happily roll in that one biggrin

Advert says: "The chassis is free from rust". Orly?

Great cars, had two. Bit ugly with these add-on bumpers (although those can be retrograded to the 1300cc's type).

Just don't try to stop quickly in the rain. wink

I wanted a small bumpered and mildly tweaked X/19 as my first car......even then I couldn't find a decent one for sensible money.

Would still like one now though

I very much like the look of that, if it were a bit closer....
Still looking for a nice 4 seat drop top and there ain't many about that are truly practical 4 seater.
My only "niggle" is that they don't look different enough from the stock E36. I'm thinking E30 M3 with the arches and spoilers etc. (Oh how I wish I hadn't sold mine)

Love it and the price seems reasonable (compared to many other classics) but surely you're better off with the Mk1 or MK3 MR2

I'm sure in any measurable way you're right but in the spirit of the thread I thought this was worth putting in. I doubt I'd have the nerve to risk this myself.

I really wanted one, but couldn't fine one near me and the gearbox/rust problem frightened me, so I purchased a 91 500SL from a PHer - I have no regrets at all.
