Hard to believe that design is over 20 years old, still looks great to my eyes and better than a lot modern stuff.lesstatt said:

BV - I know from your previous comments that you're not a fan, and I don't want one myself (although my second-ever car was a GT back in the mid-80s). Notwithstanding, they are popular and I'd have expected a roadster to be pitched at more than 4k, hence me posting it with the comments I did.
I would agree with you, they aren't that bad and quite affordable, we all know its a morris marina in a different body.Skyedriver said:

Car on a trailer is maybe not the best way to sell it.

Lovely but..... DIESEL. Seriously, is there any such thing as a good diesel car? It has seemed to me for a while (long before VW-gate) that the European diversion toward diesels was a wrong turning. The US has it right, I think - hardly any diesel cars. Filthy stuff, dreadful pollutey yuck, and no longer so mucho cheapo as it used to be. I know that the modern turbo diesels go well, but, meh. Modern petrol engines are now cleanish and efficient, and would be much better on MPG if the cars they pull or push around weren't so unduly heavy. Anyway, we really need to replace the internal combustion engine soonish, lovely thing that it is.

I had a temporary company 405 for a while and thought that while short of headroom, it was clearly a long way ahead of the other Sierra-class mass market cars for handling and ride, as long as you had power steering. The manual steering was rather too low geared and a bit lumpy-feeling. The BX was the other one that I liked at the time, a very different feel from some similar mechanicals, but equally interesting.
I tried to get one of the run-out estates as my permanent company car later on, but I wasn't important enough and had to get something cheaper.
Back in the day In my late twenties I got promoted to the grade at work where, instead of your free issue Rover 400/Vectra/Mondeo, you could choose a car to a budget. "woohoo, Golf VR6 here I come!" I thought, until I was told that I had to have a recycled 405 STDT estate.I tried to get one of the run-out estates as my permanent company car later on, but I wasn't important enough and had to get something cheaper.
I took it on about as willingly as one would a ginger step-child but, actually, it was a great car; fast (for its time), amazingly comfortable and quite enjoyable to drive

My dad had a couple of XMs, the big green J-reg diesel estate was sold to a farmer in the NE of Scotland with over 250,000 miles on the clock and ran for a good few years after thatThe only 'fault' was the hydraulic tappets would stick sometimes which made it noisier but it just kept going
