I had a very clean Mk3 Golf GTI. I'd hardly describe it as a classic though, the Mk3 Golf isn't exactly a high point from VW biggrin

Always disappointed by 'needs an MOT but will defo pass!'

Well MOT it then!!
Indeed, very odd.

Back in the day I was looking for a shed, and viewed a rare Rover 218 GSi with loads of kit, had been owned by an old guy who had died, loads of service history, looked well kept....but no MOT, seller said it had expired and he didn't want the hassle, but would 'definitely pass' and was priced 'accordingly...I put my foot down, wanted the car so offered to pay the MOT fee. Deal done....then a phone call two days later, failed on 10 points, on the way to the scrapper! NEVER buy even a shed without a ticket unless the parts are worth the purchase price.

I concur. I buy loadsa heaps, and I always insist on an MoT ticket, and preferably a long one. I know that a ticket is no guarantee that the car is not a POS, but having one reduces a lot of hassle.

I am about to break this rule by buying a 200 quid 1990s Volvo coupe for my nephew (I forget what it is, something with pop up headlights, or whatever), but I do not expect to spend more than 300 or so getting it through the MoT. I may take a bath on that one, but we shall see.

318i's are getting over budget now? The market is getting silly.

In case any of you missed the other thread about it, you can now check a cars MOT history with just the reg number, you no longer need the mot ref number or V5 document ref number. It should help when searching for cars smile

Very interesting and entertaining thread with some unusual cars as well as the usual suspects.

This probably comes under unusual. I had 2 of the later ones and they were great fun to drive and this looks a cared for example.

The convertibles seem to sell like hot cakes, but I quite like this.

These also sell quickly. Maybe it's a bit expensive. 'S3' but S3C bonnet, can't remember if those wheels were an option like the V8s, prefer the OZ's myself.

And now for something completely different...... not many left, a very late one, and quicker than XR3i, Golf gti smilegetmecoat

Btw it was previously advertised privately for @ £1k less which was probably about right.

Sticks.

That loos very nice. I'm amazed how some of these have lasted. We had one which must've been about 4 years old and it rattled like a very rattly thing. It wouldn't idle either, cut out all the time, and I eventually gave up taking it back to the dealer, bought a book on fuel injection systems and did it myself. They also wanted £110 for a hood handle too c1993.

Great B road fun and very pretty, it was rated as the best cabrio at the time iirc, though SWMBO1 preferred the XR3i (clutch too heavy, probably).

I always liked those 480 Volvos. They were a bit messy styling-wise at the front end with that superfluous low-mounted grille but overall they were always in the "interesting" pile, as opposed to the Volvo 340 range which were utter st. The grille was a late addition as Volvo's management tried to impose a bit of a corporate identity on a car which was originally to have been sold as a Daf. It's got pop-up headlamps too and everyone loves pop-up headlamps.
