I quite agree.. and I'm not sure where the tomcat moniker came from for the car, but it's how some folk I know differentiate that coupe from the other 200 series coupe. Strawman said:
Yes early models could do that, I think they moved something (steering column?) so it didn't happen on later ones. I like the suggestion of a tail fin at the rear. Wish they'd used a similar dash to the Trevi.
I think it was that (for reasons probably pertinent at the time) the power steering pump was driven by the cambelt. As a result under load it would snap the belt Zerotonine said:

I think an oft-overlooked future classic could be the Rover Coupe turbo, the 'tomcat' one.
Although I think £3k at this stage is a little optimistic

Looking at the pics closely, I guess that's had quite a lot of paintwork tarting up with a spraycan! They were quick cars, and I really liked the tan half leather seats on the GTI, but I think the 3 door was a nicer shape than the coupe.

Great choice! When I was a kid (about 11 years old) we lived in North Eastern Nigeria (yeah...exactly where it has gone so horribly lately!).These were the newish Peugeot model back then and they were great. Then in Lagos itself nearly every taxi was a 404 or 504 (with 504s built under license in Nigeria then IIRC?). Tough things!
The 504 was a very versatile car. Upmarket versions were a kind of French Five Series in the 'Seventies. The 504 Ti had very good performance and they all had excellent handling.
Here is a 504 Ti.

I was disappointed that there isn't a single Peugeot 604 for sale of any type. I love the style of them and the way they glide down the road.

The Subaru SVX is a very interesting car to my eyes. Available within budget. Has anybody driven one?
Interior looks in very good condition actually. Superb retro purchase.

I haven't seen many of these over the years at all. They must be rare, because they're genuinely striking.Interior looks in very good condition actually. Superb retro purchase.

Yes, IIRC the one we had was an estate which had three rows of seats! My Dad also had a 404 Saloon at the same time. I seem to remember both had column shift? I remember driving them...and I was only 11 years old...LOL! North Eastern Nigeria was "safe" in those days. The worst things were 11 year old kids like me driving Peugeots and 12 year old kids driving those HUGE Mercedes trucks laden with loads of people!Oddly, the 504 L had a column shift, whereas the 504 GL and Ti had a floor mounted shift. The L also had a completely different dash to the GL and Ti and different instruments too. IIRC, only the GL and Ti were available with an automatic transmission, but most cars seemed to be manual.

At least the questionable metallic green 1100 has pressed silver on black plates.
Yes, pretty ironic. For those of us who lived through that era - everyone was desperately ripping off their old fashioned black and silver plates and putting on the newer style reflective ones. I would bet a substantial sum that the car was supplied with reflective plates when new. There's a bit of a modified Mini and Minor 1000 vibe due to the non-standard colour? BMW MINI retro Vs real Retro?
Thinking about the sprayed over brakelines, would they have had split circuit brakes then?

Advert expired, but handily lists other Toyotas for sale. £18K for an AE86 Levin? Another AE86 for £24K? Crikey!dbdb said:

Impressive 504 bearding! Caruso said:
aven't seen one of those in years, but there used to be one around the corner from me in the same colour.
Cor! I had one of these back in 1985. It was metallic st brown coloured. The 2.0 engine with a 3 speed auto box was no great performer but once you wound it up to motorway speeds it was a good long distance tourer. I used to do Kent to Mid Wales in it on a frequent basis. The pillarless design meant that with the window down the whole side of the car appeared to open up.Wish I had kept it now!
