Thread Purchase! (sort of)

http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/184193/1993...

I only went to look out of interest, as not much interesting stuff pops up for sale down here. Ended up doing a deal there and then. Paid £500 Extremely good condition, very pleased with it so far, I've always liked these smile

That looks like a bargain.
Any more pics.
There are a few on the linked thread. Also looks like the seller was desperate to shift it, hence the great price biggrin Looks really nice, especially pop up lights!

Thanks smile

Unfortunately, haven't got any other pics than the ones in the ad at the moment, bloody winter I've hardly seen it in the daylight yet!

Yea, definitely a great price, incredibly clean inside, and all the gadgets still work, I'm very taken with it so far smile

I post this horror to show just how much you can ruin what was once a good car.

You are very welcome, I already have a convertible with my 500SL. It looks like a nice car though, but as always check for rust. A BMW enthusiast friend really regrets selling his - the 323 engine isn't particularly fast, but it's nice and smooth and makes for a pleasant open top car.

Good luck!
Just to confirm, picked it up tonight, Thread Purchase complete!

I like it but it seems a lot of work, wouldn't a Manta make an easier starting point rather than doing a RWD conversion? I don't know much about old VX's so I could be very wrong or maybe the Manta just costs too much in the first place.

Reminds me of the Talbot Sunbeam.

It's just a perfect period piece. A guilty pleasure to observe. I doubt I'd particularly enjoy driving it though.

Reminds me of a Lotus Sunbeam with the shape and type of engine

I think I'd rather have an XE Manta but looks interesting all the same

Sounds as it's not permanently ruined though. Give it a decent coat of 2-pack lacquer, put the bumpers back on and it might be saved.

Bin the horrid front seats also, but who knows what vile acts of Barryage have been perpetrated under the bonnet?

I was well chuffed to see a 2500 on the A505 recently that had every appearance of being in daily use as family transport. Mum was driving, kids in the back.

I miss my 2000, between 2009-2010 I did 20,000 miles in it! Fuel bill was horrendous though...

You see, I like the fact that it would have been easier to do a Manta, probably cheaper too. I have a 60's Beetle with 200 bhp, it would have been easier (and way, way cheaper) to buy a 911. But that wouldn't be as much fun biggrin

Coming back from Italy in early September and this one was tanking on well through Northern France ( obviously been down to the Lakes Rally )

My dad had 3 of them in a row as company cars in the late 60s/ early 70s

The second one he had lunched its engine just after picking it up as a piece of cloth or similar from assembly blocked the oil pickup/oil way
