Yes but i agree, and that's the issue, someone will always buy an old fancy nancy Maserati, but garage space for big ole charming duffers? But good news really, if you want one you can get one, pretty much everyone can afford £5000 even as a graduate with a loan. Hence this brilliant thread. Rileys were once fancy nancy, but not any more cos they are largely unknown.

That Riley could be a fine entry route into pre-1960s classicking. I mostly do 70s and 80s nonsense, and thus far I have not ventured back as far as the 50s or earlier, although I once foolishly passed up the chance to buy a pre-War MG tourer with an Amherst-Villiers blower for relatively cheapo wonga. I nearly succumbed to an early 60s Vauxhaull sporty saloon last year, and am tempted to get something 50s or early 60s ish one day soonish.

I love the look of that type of car - but realistically would anyone use it ?

The odd trip out on a sunny day at best.
Some people do. Quite a few do European tours and some go a lot further.

Er... isn't that very often in the very nature of a classic/retro car? High days and holidays, etc.
Not for me - most of the cars on this thread seem to be post 80's and hence perfectly usable as daily transport IMO.

I don't have experience of many marques but I'd say you're probably right and most of those cars have completely disappeared now.

I would however say that equivalent era Mercs, in my experience of working on them, don't exhibit that level of structural rust to anywhere near that extent.
might I suggest the R/C107 Mercedes if you want rust

Couple more oddballs from that bargain filled Dutch Auction for your weekend coffee and hobnob delectation.

Like all terrain trucks AND convertibles? Space for only one car? Solved..........

That's quite tempting, not least because I've two of them sat in a field in Kent, one's a scrapper, but the other is restorable, despite being a bit of a basket case
bags of money in parts in these old Unimogs, every single bit of them is worth something, all kinds of brackets, bolts, chassis sections etc

Well its £700 so fill your boots, 3 hours to go.
More neoclassic this time; smart roadster coupes ten years old.

Still not on the same level in my experience:

I concede that early 107s might be in with a good shout but you really have to go further back to the Pagoda to be sure of matching (or exceeding!) that era of BMW levels of rust. Please see pics near the bottom of the page yikes :

I'd have liked to have bought the Brabus from the previous owner (hopefully for £100 more than the px price), but EH are asking top dollar for a car that looks like it needs a lot doing to it.

They must have such mechanical woes to be so undervalued, my roadster had no trouble at all, but I only owned it one year.

Blimey already £4100 with 5 days to go, quite rusty. The barge pole is long and dog turd covered on that one for me, although glad someone will be bringing it back to glory.....different strokes! biggrin

I just picked up the latest edition of modern classics - very much a magazine for this thread. Looking forward to reading this later. Rover 800 turbo, senator 3.0, 164 Cloverleaf, 25 TXi, Audi 100 - fantastically outdated retro-ness!

Ooof! Is that a 2.2 CD C3 I spot?

The most aerodynamic car in its class with a Cd of 0.30. First car I ever passed 100mph in; a committed GP Snr. taking advantage of a newly opened and empty stretch of dual carriageway north of Aberdeen, one Saturday afternoon.
The most aerodynamically smooth car in its class was the Renault 25 with a cd of 0.27. Audi were better at marketing than Renault...

Good spot Efbe, there's some real schysters on ebay and dont see any way to report or flag the trading. 141 "followers".

Mentioning the Renault 25 I remember thinking as a teenager that when I was a family man I would have the Monaco limited edition as the rippled coffee leather seem other worldly luxurious on the TV adverts featuring Mr Sideparting-Smugtwunt.
Saw this recently, an example of a relatively boggo classics that were ten a penny, these are the ones we miss, hope people will keep them, cant be many RHDs. In the future people will think everyone had a Beetle, Escort MkII, MGB GT or E-type and nothing else.

From what I see he just put them on with a reserve they did not reach the reserve so he relisted them what is wrong with that?

Yes but it says "no reserve" then it is relisted, at least five times now.
All his followers are "eggs".
