Will there ever be another saloon which looks quite so right?
Love those wheels.

Don't know anything about these, but it looks cool.
OK, now you really are in my bearded area.

I own 2 later (a 67 and a 68) V8 AMCs (hence my handle)

For -
They look cool (in my biased opinion)
No-one has a clue what they are (although the amount of wannbe beards who tell you stuff like they have a Ford engine is hilarious - AMC never, ever, used a Ford engine)
Not many around.
Reliable and dead easy to work on.
Generally quite rust resistant.

Against
Yank beards sneer at them because they aren't Ford, GM or Mopar
A few parts can be hard to find and expensive (although not many)

Against this one
That's very strong money - although I'd argue they should be worth a lot more (try buying even a crappy low-spec Mopar at these prices) they are unloved and hard to sell on because they aren't a "scene" type car.
You (may) always wish you'd bought the V8.

Random trivia 1 - The 3.8 six is a development of the Trimuph six - yes really.
Random trivia 2 - The same engine was fitted to Pacer - the "Waynes World" mirthmobile when GM stopped development of a rotary intended for the AMC Pacer.

I love these little things. £795

Perfect for zipping about the countryside in the summertime http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-205-CJ-Junior-Co...

I have a small, old convertible car. I am looking at buying another cheap car for driving to work in. Based on seeing this, I think what I need is another small, old, convertible car. I absolutely love that! It just makes me think or cruising about in the summer, parked outside the pub. Style for miles there for £800.

Agreed - it's a great looking thing and a bargain compared with some of the stuff about....

Having that Mustang engine isn't really a positive point.

I'm not sure W00DY is helping. They post too many interesting cars.

I think their Alfa 164 suggestion made this crop on eBay from the red Beta coupe:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT127-PICK-UP-VERY-NIC...

With regard to the 164, I've heard more about crumbly rear subframes than bushes. I think that would need to be checked. How salty is the Thames and air in that part of London?

I wasn't sure on the wheels, however on reflection I like them!

I just know this would be a very bad car to try running as a daily, but would love to try! The Lexus in the drive is kind of reassuring in a 'the owner is a PH type of chap' way.
This made me angry until I ran the plate through Autotrader and found it wasn't really an original V8-S. No headlight wipers and shiny bumpers were the clue along with the nin V8-S interior.
Did the sixes have different rear axle/suspension set up? Were the sixes live axle, where as the V8 had something better?

I'm thinking of the CAR Magazine Giant test of the Vitesse and the E28 528i.

Would it look better with the front lamps and indicators swapped for later ones? Later mirror shrouds, later C post covers but correct for age front lamps? It's not as though the original vertical louvres for the C post covers didn't look good. The later ones had diagonal corners to the rear window in the tailgate too didn't they?

That SD1 is quite something! biglaugh

It's like the Blackadder Baby eating Bishop of Bath & Wells sketch. 'Who could dream up such depravity...

For the predictable, an E12 BMW 528i, though it is bright green and does now have a 3.5-litre engine and 5-sp box…

And for the purist, a one-owner from new, 1971 Triumph 2.5PI…

Might have a look later to see if there’s anything Aussie worth looking at.
Top selection thumbup. Love the E12 and the Triumph.

Ta - if that 528 was closer to me, I'd be having a look. Manual box and 3.5 engine, complete with retro colour - what's not to like!! biggrin

Thanks thumbup

I think one would regret not going for a V8, but a nice one sounds like my perfect yank motor.

Interesting comparison with the £4K 130TC Ritmo Abarth. I think I'd lean more towards the Fiat, but that Rabbit is really tempting too. I think I'd rather pay £2K for the VW than twice as much for the Fiat. No mention or visibility of bubbles under the paint on the tailgate.

But then again the Abarth has a Guy Croft tweaked motor......Would that advert benefit from a dyno plot showing what the tweaked engine is putting out that would help verify the healthiness of that car and justify the price?

Thank god I don't have more car storage space! Ok, not as desirable as an Evo, but the 8v is a fraction of the price. this looks great in the pics and it sounds like its been looked after. I'd return original 'look' incl sorting the interior, whilst retaining the mechanical enhancements. The crux of it will be how well the bodywork was cut back and prepared before it was painted...they do rust a lot!
