These MR2 pics got me looking at them. I know it's got a bodykit (no idea if that's an OEM one or aftermarket), but I like it

Paint is tidy but being a pre facelift probably drinks oil like it does petrol.http://www.tcmotorslondon.co.uk/used-cars/toyota-m...

Back when I had my pre facelift I didn't have the Internet. It neither drank oil nor shat itself by ingesting the pre cats over 3 years
Whereas the one I had did just that within 18 months of ownership, I only came across the emerging threads all over the net in various vvti related fora when battling Toyota UK as to whether or not a litre a week was reasonable.During that time the storage bins flooded with rainwater, it went through two O2 sensors in the same almost unreachable location, the wheels bubbled & flaked and I needed to take the front bumper off to replace a sidelight bulb.
I wasn't that impressed when it was working properly either, under powered and snappy like an automotive chihuahua being my lasting impression.

Brings back memories I had a 16v in white, 88 F plate back in 94/95 and I loved it. Looks so tiny and dumpy now though but back then it was the bees knees! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-Astra-GTE-16v-M...

Nice 240
I would love another 240 GLT estate... Can't find an estate so a saloon will have to do!

My dad managed to make 2 Volvo estates last from 1979 to 1998 , first was an auto ,P reg second was a B reg manual I would love another 240 GLT estate... Can't find an estate so a saloon will have to do!

He sold the P reg when it was about 12 years old and was genuinely gutted when he saw it still being driven a couple of years later
When I was 18 I took my parents to Cambridge airport in the auto , I'd only been driving a few months and never an auto , as I left the airport I approached a T junction and instinctively went for the clutch
It stopped dead , I looked in the mirror to see a car skidding towards me but luckily he stopped, just , he was using some choice language as I drove off

I'm being facetious obviously! But a mk3 mr2 that doesn't handle has something seriously wrong with it (as I'm assuming you don't). All I'll say on the engine failures, is a little like the Porsche 9X6/9X7 problems, yes you here a lot about failures but people tend not to start threads on forums about how nothing has gone wrong.

I like it, but it's surely not a 4 grand car.

RX-7s are gorgeous and doubly so in black. Not keen on the wheels or exhaust on this example and obviously has potential for big bills, but I must have one.

16v, small bumper, 3 door in a great colour. This is how a Golf GTI should be.

£5500 RX-7s are gorgeous and doubly so in black. Not keen on the wheels or exhaust on this example and obviously has potential for big bills, but I must have one.
But that seems to be a cheap car.
I'm aware of the seller though my MX5 connections - he has a good reputation - I wish I knew how he manages to buy cars so cheaply.
As it has a "make offer", perhaps £5k offer would get it, so it should be allowed IMO.
Puts some rays on and change silencer, = best ever jap car exterior design although personally not an admirer of the wankel.
For even braver wankellers the there are 3 x vgc NSU Ro80 in the Netherlands under £5k

Rare early Mitsubishi Colt
I was out bid on this around October/November last year on eBay, winning until the last few seconds then out bid by £20 always the way! Now back for sale in Ireland for a lot more then it went for on eBay

Picture I had on my PC of it from last year

Personally, I've found the MR2 the most scary car to drive out of everything I've owned so far. It can snap on you. Of course, that's meant I've spent a lot of time learning how to drive an MR style of car, which has been enjoyable.... So it's not all bad.
Also, it's well known that the pre-facelift cars can be a bit of a nightmare with their cats in particular. The facelift was a lot better, but the jury's still out as to whether the issues were ever 100% resolved. I understand they got it almost perfect (or perfect) with the final engines with some small changes in 06 (which is why I went for an 06).
Unlike HS though, I've had zero problems with mine. It's flown through the past two MOTs, with (essentially) no advisories. Nothing this time around, and only the standard 'undertray fitted obscuring sight of something', or something along those lines.
I've been pretty impressed with the car, and it's now been the longest standing car I've owned... Not quite on purpose though - just not found anything I like enough to replace it with.
Also agree with earlier posts re pricing. That one for £5k is ridiculously-priced. I'm going to put mine up for £4k (eventually), and mine has arguably got more going for it (bar perhaps it's higher mileage and not A1 condition).
Ok, I'll preface this comment with a claim that I generally detest posts that decry other posts for a simple difference of opinion. I get that people see different things in different experiences and what suits one may well not suit another. But......
A mk3 MR2 is scary or dangerous?!
To any driving enthusiast (& I'm assuming we all are), I just can't see it. It's universally known as one of the best handling cars built in the last 15 years. I spun mine on numerous occasions but only when absolutely pushing its limits (something I actually enjoyed doing) but this does not make it a bad handling car, it was me being a bad driver.
Mine had the TTE suspension and 17" wheels (which if you read forums are the bad choice) and it was a joy. Yes it could bite if I drive like a twunt, but that probably did more to educate me in road driving twuntery than many previous years of ragging fwd hot hatches around the uk's finest driving roads (where I call home).
Calling a mk3 MR2 scary or dangerous holds about as much stature in my book as someone slating the Porsche Carrera GT's engine for getting st mpg and having a high road tax band.
So let's agree to disagree
