Iirc the top left guage is oil pressure. Isn't it a bit low considering it's not fully warmed up? Long time since I had one and I can't remember what's 'normal'.

Meh. French electrics are never to be trusted

The oil temp looks fairly warm to me though - did they get that much higher normally? The gauges/senders are sometimes are a bit flaky but if it were mine I'd want to know what viscosity oil it's got in, take a reading with a proper gauge to get an idea what it is in reality . Iirc that's showing just about over 1 bar at idle - you might find a new sender would give a slightly different reading.
The old Ford water temp senders were a bit like that - if you didn't like where the needle sat normally a new sender might mean it sat slightly different.
The old BMW ones were fairly stable on the gauge for a particular range of temps - I.e. They don't tend to move on the gauge as much

That's not very retro.

I like these Senators, particularly the egg crate grille.

The grey interior is a bit of a put off.

It's definitely getting there, and much more interesting in its estate guise

The oil pressure gauge on these cars is at best a guess of the actual oil pressure. On my current one mine sits about there at idle and the oil pressure is fine. On my last one the gauge sat at around halfway and rarely moved!

That said, better 205s for that money come up if you've got the patience.

Top of thr range Ghia model did not have electric windows back then.
Horrible things, in any level of trim/spec. frown
I agree, not Fords finest hour, but not really any worse than the equivalent Golf of the time, people would be in full on wkfest mode at a 1981 Golf GL for £5000.

Well, having suffered a number of Mark III Escorts and Orions as company cars I'd say *much* worse than a Golf of the time, for my money, but I do think it's worth a few ordinary bad cars being preserved.

Was looking at that XJ earlier, mascot aside it looks lovely.

Would love a grey 4.2 on Pepperpots.

I don't really understand the interest in any standard car like this. I mean does anyone get excited by a new 1.6 Focus?

Surely simply being old doesn't make this or any other car any less dull than it was when new?

I thought it looked nice, Pepperpots really suit them. The "Couple of other spots of minor cosmetic rust" might be a bit worse than the seller is making out. I had an XJS the same colour as the XJ. Speaking of XJS's this V12 convertible or (Convetible smile) looks nice not a bad price for what these are making now, needs some bodywork (buy it now is over thread budget £6500 but currently sat at £3700)

Interest in old cars is mainly nostalgia. It's not about going fast really, it's about how they make you feel.
