That 735 looks like a good value smoker.

These are a hoot and absolutely bullet proof. Love these old things, despite owning a new Alfa.

This may be more suited to the Barges 1-5 thread, but this seems like an utter bargain

£1250

Now that's a much better buy than that E23.

I don't really understand the interest in any standard car like this. I mean does anyone get excited by a new 1.6 Focus?

Surely simply being old doesn't make this or any other car any less dull than it was when new?
Interest in old cars is mainly nostalgia. It's not about going fast really, it's about how they make you feel.
Like you / your Dad should have had a better job / taste in cars ?

wink
It's automotive white goods. In it's day it didn't make you feel anything because it was bought by people who weren't into cars.

Buying one now because of nostalgia is just a bit odd. It's no different ot buying a 1980s fridge freezer because your parents used to have one.
So is this true for any car no matter the age?

BMW e30 or e21
Triumph Toledo or Dolly
Riley Elf
Mini-Minor
Ford Pop
Mk1 Escort

It is for me.

I wouldn't want the shopping version of any of them.

I would be interested in a 323 / 325, Dolly Sprint or one of the faster Escorts.

The Mk3 Escort really, to most people I would say, has none of these things. Particularly the boggo spec one quoted pages back.
It was a 1.6 Ghia, which would make it a top of the range model would it not? With similar performance to the XR, just less sportily focused.

I'm not wanting to derail anything, and others have quoted and commented on that car, so I feel I am doing no different. But it does seem the same type of car gets tarred with a different brush, just because of era or perceived badge snobbery of that time.

The Crack Fox said:
Made by the million, horrible to drive, little motorsport pedigree, bland styling, rough engines, rust, not that old, but above all they are boring. Can't we leave it buried pages back where it belongs?

I often stick up for you, 300bhp/thing, but please don't derail this thread, it's one of my favourites on PH, please. Find us summat that fits the recipe we're all enjoying. No MK3 Escrotes, though, please wink

The 145 and 146 1990s era onwards were fully galvanised. None of mine ever had a speck of the brown stuff back in the day. They are far more solid and dependable than most people realise. Despite owning a new one I'd pick up an old Alfa again just for a fun project car. Shame the same cannot be said of the VXR underneath! tongue out

Love these but garage full.

A garage I used to use had a Turbo R in about 12 years ago, the owner had parked on a disused petrol station forecourt , came back to it in the dark , gave 2 tonnes of V8 the boot and ran straight into one of the pump islands.

No bodywork damage at all but lots underneath , he said just fix it, I don't want to go through the insurance but when they started pricing the parts up it was laughable .

I think the sub frame that holds the engine in was 12k , ended up close to being written off and would have been if their labour rates weren't so low.

So no thanks , 5k to buy it and 5k to fix anything that goes wrong

Ahh 12 years ago....there are specialist scrappies now with decent prices, after all breaking cars are £3k.
Ive seen a complete turbo engine advertised for £1500, perfect for a custom moggy minor.

Whilst we are into the age of seventies-eighties cornflake packets, lovely alfa in the land of trees.
£5k minty Alfetta but sold now after a week.
