Fond, probably very rose-tinted, memories of a 2.0 480ES from a lifetime ago.
Well appointed and very chuckable then, it is probably flimsy and gutless by todays standards but definitely still a way to stand out from the crowd and pop-up lights are always a winner.
My girlfriend at the time had a 1.7 and I share your sentiment, I thought they were quite lively little cars back then.Well appointed and very chuckable then, it is probably flimsy and gutless by todays standards but definitely still a way to stand out from the crowd and pop-up lights are always a winner.
I had a MK3 Supra at the same time. I thought they were good stablemates.
My current daily is a 480 ES 2.0
It's a cracking little thing, goes well, and only cost me £500
That one featured is a bit tatty, there's one for sale on RetroRides that's probably a better option http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/189462/1994...

Short answer: about 150-160 hp can be done without serious risk, but longer answer: you're not going to drive in somewhere, pay £200 for a chip and drive out again with 50 more horses, because it takes actual work to uncork these things.
Most tuning of the Renault 1.7T is for its use in re-engining the R5 GT Turbo.

It's less pretty than the 205 but a really good car, and I would find that a very pleasant thing to take out to the seaside from time to time. Always thought they were terrific when they were new.
It is less pretty than a 205 the 205 still looks modern today IMO , but to be honest I used to prefer them over the 205 GTI to drive and live with every day. I think they suited the 1.9 engine better than it's little brother Lowtimer said:

They did handle really well - back in the late 80s a few of my friends stumped up for new 1.9 205s. I was set to find a decent low-mileage one myself after being impressed by theirs. One day one of my friends had a 309Gti as a courtesy car - he was really impressed with it, the dealer was keen to sell me a car ( he'd sold 3 new 1.9 205s to our group )so loaned me the 309 for the day. I was really taken with it, it didn't seem any slower than the 205s ( we did try it out ) I got a Graphite Grey one shortly after!

This may be more suited to the Barges 1-5 thread, but this seems like an utter bargain
