Another 2.8 BMW, in 3 series format and £45 more. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Might just be nice with that lovely engine, but all sorts of ECU problems as they age, quite apart from damp from hood. ...and don't they look dated now? Also, battery in ( often damp) boot not a great feature

Interesting points. A chap who lives near my parents has one, but his spent most of its life with a hardtop on so perhaps that helps. I like the engine, and think they look rather retro nowadays!

Re the looks, I think they look better now than they did say 5 years ago.

Also love the manual z3. Never driven one but I imagine in manual form it must be a decent drive.

I thought the Ghia X had leather interior as standard

According to Wikipedia that was the Ghia X Executive that had standard hide, nott he mere Ghia X, though a lot of Ghia X models did have leather specified. To be honest the velour is probably better for long term wear as long as it doesn't suffer from too much sunlight, as with Mercedes of the period.

I had forgotten about the Ghia X Executive.
Always liked the 2.8 Injection model with the white wheels and Recaro interior.

Passed my test in one so soft spot here, looks good in the dark blue metallic - get it on the minilites thread.
Deffo some Alfasud in there, although the back goes a bit fat Mavis from Rita, Sue and Bob too.
Mate had one for 6 years, unerringly reliable, even though vaguely serviced.
We got too tired coming back from surfing so decided to camp at Greenham Common airbase for free as skint stoodents circa 1990.
Some short haired type ladies came over and had words when we peed standing up against the fence next morning, the guard was fine about it though, someone to chat too.
Millie Tant asked us to move one and we did after the good nights sleep and wafting some bacon smells in their direction to annoy them at brekky > even though we were both also veggies at the time, it was that dried bacon soya stuff, pretty vile.

So very near, right colour but wrong engine. I also prefer the touring but that's probably just me. Leather too if I'm being picky, and I'll have the moon on a stick too while I'm asking for the impossible wink
