Maybe not very classic or retro but there can't be many of these left
Vectra 2.5 GSI 12 months MOT £750
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-GSI-V6-/...

And from the same seller as the Vectra, a Nova 1.4 SRI with a 2.0 red top!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vauxhall-nova-2-liter-re...
GSI Vectra I recall a test drive in one of those when they first came out.

A great sounding engine - it didn't have the best front end and lit up the tyres with little provocation (possibly the fault of the rubber).
One less V6 Vectra on my account I'm afraid.

It was a great engine, but as you say the traction wasn't really up to the power, especially on a wet B road with a stone bridge in close proximity.

Don't think so, that one looks alright with it, just needs some period motorsport wheels rather than chrome tat.

That's unbelievably grim. A boggo old Saab in probably the most unappealing colour/interior combo possible. There are some cracking propositions on this thread for spending £4500, this isn't one of them surely?

The trendy buyer will claim it's all ironic. (Sadly, I'm old enough to remember these first time round.) ,They were ok but hyped and spares/official servicing were extortionate. A young colleague bought a used one and was forever looking for cheap spare parts. Another example of a slightly " cut above" marque being not much cop.

The 15" ones from the 280 brooklands run-out Capri
Made by Ronal if I recall
You have an informed interest in wheels. Who makes the majority of popular standard fit alloys with a small " m" on them? They appear on all sorts of cars and seem " par for the course" ?
Sorry I don't but I did used to like 3.0 and 2.8 capris back in the day and got a bit geeky about them, that's the only reason I recall the name

This one starts out so well. Then begins to lose its appeal a bit.

My dad had one of those, in white sans quattro tho. Made a great sound I remember. What I don't remember is when I saw one last, even in a picture. Rare now.

I loved these. First car I ever drove, it was also the first car I had been in where I felt the sensation of being pushed back in my seat whilst under acceleration.

I fancy a cheap and simple city runabout like this. Only £950. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-PRIMA-1990-SUP...

Couldn't be too difficult to swap it for a real gearbox could it?

Obviously Renault fans, there's a Megane, a Twingo and a Duster in those pics.

At least it makes it slightly more difficult to abuse. My granny's nova had to have a new clutch at 9,000 miles!

Actually yesterday for the first time in years. Got passed by an old duffer in a maroon estate with all 4 corners sitting at a different ride height.

Nice R5 and obviously well cared for.

I'd probably go for a Twingo Mk1 (and put up with the LHD) if I was to do the cheap French car thing.

How does expensive spares = "not much cop"?

Not sure if this is retro but it is not becoming a classic.

Yes again just over the £5,000 limit but I am sure with a bit of haggling £5,000 could be achieved

Shame it's the 2.0 turbo and not the 2.5 5 cyl turbo.

There was never a 2.5 Turbo. The 5 cylinder 20VT was 2.0 like the four cylinder. Just had 30bhp more.
