Nothing says "I'm a cheap bd" like a Golf which turns its engine off and has a massive clock.

I never really understood the 'Giant Clock' thing - a particular favourite of the Germans in the 80s - are the innards of a clock really that much cheaper than those of a tacho? I do get why they were there with old diesels with no convenient source of rpm data.

Was just looking at that Range Rover. Looks lovely and I like the fact it has been...."bushed so drives in a straight line"

hehe

I had one of those back in the day - mine was black though, so no colour-coded wheels :-)

Liked it a lot - was a great Q-Car to embarrass 318s,320s etc.
Right, yours had the colour coded tyres, then?

I doubt it saved them anything, but I'm sure it made them plenty with people upgrading to avoid staring at a symbolic representation of their every failure. My favourite is when there's just a picture of the car or logo instead.

A handsome motor car.

"Loads of service bills" but the last one was 30000 miles ago. FTS!

I still have a soft spor for these.

It's hard to imagine these days how a car with a 1.8 115 bhp motor was considered the fast version.
We were much easier pleased back then.
Recaros, a foam spoiler, stickers & 1 inch larger alloys were all that were required. smile
They were awesome Recaros though, and mine felt pretty fast when I was 18. In laboratory tests on the local bypass, it was also a smidge quicker than my mate's XR3i. biggrin
Then the SRi130 came out with Central locking and electric windows OMG smile

130 sounded like a heap of power, as did 150 with the cavalier GSi, so on and so on.

Not sure if classic, but definitely retro based on the fact that young me used to make a mess of the brochure looking at all that alcantara (mainly the steering wheel... man was that thing sexy!). sperm

Both the car I need and want. Damn.
I'd really like to try one if these, shame it's at the other end of the country. Anyone in Cumbria who could take a look at all?

Imagine turning up for a date in that. It'd be like shooting fish in a barrel; it would turn you directly into Hugh Heffner just by sitting in it.

You would have to wear a fur coat, Aviators and a Bandito moustache not to be upstaged by the car of course.
I just like the placement of the radio in relation to the gearlever.

On a serious note I am liking this 145 cloverleaf with recent cambelt change for £800

I love these and was thinking about them the other day. Used to sell them new and they are great hot hatches and that engine is a peach. Tempted with that one......thank God I have a private plate to go in it though wink Leather looks a bit mouldy though!

I know a guy who got one new and kept it for about 10 years. It was a properly cherished car and he loved it but I never liked the looks or the ape like driving position. It had to have the floor welded at one point too...

I think that the point was to shame you into paying extra to get a tach.
Looks great:

Not sure if this is a repost, but these must be really rare now. I remember my grandad having a Victor of a similar vintage (E reg I think) when I was little, and at 10 years old or so it was as rotten as a pear.

I remember my father in law asking me why his Mk2 Mondeo, despite having 130 bhp, wasn't that fast when in the 80s 130 bhp was enough to make a Cavalier quick.

Yep, just like that, except his was a saloon, with big patches of rust on it.
