Vauxhall Cavalier SR Mk2

Ouch

Crazy price for that car, they had no PAS and the steering was like a 1960's bus when parking, and this model was slow, the 1.8i that followed it felt like a rocket in comparison (I had one exactly like this around 1989, paid £250 for it - was a 1 owner X reg 5 door with Reccaro's etc, with FSH but needed the sills done for the MOT. The SRi and SRi 130 that followed this SR model were genuinely quick at the time but this model was rubbish.

Used to be so common - a brand new one of those was the first fast car I drove.

Felt like a rocket after an 1100 Mini smile
Good memories here too; I used to get a lift most weekends from Pompey to North Devon and it seemed to go like the clappers.

Did those alloys ever look good though?

There are some crackers on here: https://www.facebook.com/barnfindworld/

From all over the world. Quite a few out of budget, but many aren't

V6 Espace. I'm not entirely sure why I want it. (aside from the fact that it comes with the retro-fetishists' air-freshener of choice)

I worked with a bloke who had a white one of those on an F plate. Back in 1993 I think. I see the looks haven't improved with age, still absolutely hideous.

oh god I want that so so much, I'd take of the silly wheels/suspension/exhaust for a fun boaty experience, perfect for trips out when my Skyline is not much use smile

Just stuck my Dad's Austin Princess 2200 HLS up on ebay. He bought it in 1984, it's first three years were spent with Essex Police. It's unusual as I've never heard of another Austin Princess used by the police.

It's got a front antiroll bar which again is none standard. I had a 2200 HL; this car was lower and stiffer. It handled way better than the standard car with quick steering and vastly improved agility yet still rode brilliantly. Why this wasn't standard issue I don't know, I'm sure many more would have sold.

I used to go to school in this car and had my first drive in it.

My Dad had a 2.2 HLS of the same vintage, in poo brown with poo brown vinyl roof and beige velour interior - it was a thing from the land that taste forgot.

When he traded it for a 2.8 Granada we all cheered!
My Dad had one in Red with cream velour interior. I hated it and found it embarressing being given lift to school. At one point the hydragas suspension failed so it looked lop sided for a while.

At least it was better than his mates Lada Estate which he sometimes drove and picked us up in.

I think that Alfa looks fabulous, I'm too young to really remember the boxer engine cars but I bet on twin carbs that sounds glorious.

The ability to breach the 100 mark at will on the local bypass......

Only 90bhp......but then it only weighed 1000kg or so

The steering might have seemed slow with no PAS ....but in reality similar stuff of the time like the E30 and Sierra were equally arm-twirling

Indeed. Lot of people on here are too young to remember when an affordable family car that would do an honest 100 mph was a rarity.

Personally I loved the wheels. And the seats, which were light years ahead of anything that came in other mass-market saloons at the time (except for Saabs, which back then were arguably too expensive and niche to qualify as true mass market for pov-spec early 80s Britain).

Also, these generally started when you turned the key. Which was far from universal experience with a Cortina or Mark 1 Cav.

The SRI actually had the 115bhp 1.8i engine. The 1.6 SR had the 90bhp 1.6 carb engine.

True - but the one in the ad is an SR - the 90bhp carb model
