Have we had this MG Montego Turbo yet?

I'm not sure how much value the story about Stacey's fanny batter adds, but it seems strong money for what was once a joke of a car. Weirdly I really like it.

The ability to breach the 100 mark at will on the local bypass......

Only 90bhp......but then it only weighed 1000kg or so

The steering might have seemed slow with no PAS ....but in reality similar stuff of the time like the E30 and Sierra were equally arm-twirling

The SRI actually had the 115bhp 1.8i engine. The 1.6 SR had the 90bhp 1.6 carb engine.
True - but the one in the ad is an SR - the 90bhp carb model

Good point.

From memory Vmax for the 1.6 was 106 mph but my dad had a Mk2 1.6L and it felt fast enough at the time.

Saw Harry Secombe in his brand new one in that colour, circa 1976. Registration HS 92, I believe, currently on a VW Golf.

A neighbour had one of these for years, in white just without the Turbo stickers on the doors, the old boy used it to tow his caravan. I have to admit I liked the look of it back then and I still like the look of them now, that one looks in good nick, the neighbours went to the scrapper after the old tin worm got too ingrained (he replaced it with a white Xantia).

Yeah, they were around that - about 5mph up on most other 1.6 saloons of that time
Probably showing another 10mph on the speedo as well!

It is nice! better than "wedding white" but I think the ad was a scam, its been taken down now
Pity. If there's a car that makes JRG almost acceptable then that's it right there /Amurcan,

Jet

Not to be pedantic but the correct term is actually "Jewish Racing Yellow". See Alan Clark's Diaries for more. If you call it JRG you're taking away half the joke.
