Well, that one is a Ford. What was the second criteria again?

By fast, I mean faster than the standard model!

I bought one of those new, tax-free, in 1989. It was red, and my then girlfriend had one in white. We thought we were cool-as.

I look back on it now as a shaping and learning experience! (The car that is, not the girl).

It was fast compared to similar cars of that Era.

I looked at the engine bay pic, then the side-on pictures and came to the same conclusion. Surely it was st back then and it'll be st now? I like Fords, but not this one.

Oh, if only I was in the UK! Are these truly ruinous to keep running? Someone reassure me that it would be financial suicide, please?

You could do this to it!

And I know the XR3i was quick for its day. Personally, I'd much rather have £4k sitting doing nothing than have that on my driveway though, but that's just me.

The Mk1 Mondeo brought fine handling to the common (family) man. It's a sure fire future classic.
I'd argue the Peugeot 405 did that, but people apparently weren't that interested in the late 80's.
I'd say the Primera P10 had a part as well - all 3 of the aforementioned were great steers
I don't know if there's any truth to it but I was once told that Ford copied the suspension setup of the Primera for the Mondeo because it handled so well.
Sounds like cobblers, during the development the Primera and the Honda Accord were used as benchmarks that the Mondeo had to surpass before the design was finalised. That's different from saying Ford copied any design features from the Primera.
For example the front MacPherson strut that almost all cars use (including the Mondeo and Primera) was a Ford development from the 1940's.

The all-white ones were quite a fashion statement at the time. I quite like seeing the white ones now, in a retro sort of way. There's no way I'd want to own one though!

No, no ruinous, just not very good.
Pretty mind.
