I love that kind of provenence! Are those original doorhandles - guess they are, but they look massive!

They are original - and rather horrible too. The saloon W126 had much nicer door handles than the coupe, for some reason.

It was fast compared to similar cars of that Era.
They wouldn't see which way an 8 valve Golf GTI went biggrin
And both of them would be wondering what happened to the 309 GTI as it powered its way into the distance! wink

Oh, if only I was in the UK! Are these truly ruinous to keep running? Someone reassure me that it would be financial suicide, please?
No, no ruinous, just not very good.
Pretty mind.
They were well regarded in the early 1980s though.

The colour of that 944 is just gorgeous!!

£2,500 for this classic, lots of money left over to make it look like a Supersport, you know you want to!

It's a beige Fiesta with unspecified engine. Noisy, slow and not great handling.

Struggling to see the attraction.
But the "retro"!!!

I know they're not very good in contemporary terms, but yes, they were well regarded in their time - certainly (puts tin hat on), compared to Mantas and Capris and things they were at least exotic.

Anyway, I think if we're going to start worrying about whether the contents of this thread are actually any good, it's going to be pretty thin!

I really do like the way these look though...

I doubt the Golf was that much quicker.

The Mk1 Mondeo brought fine handling to the common (family) man. It's a sure fire future classic.
I'd argue the Peugeot 405 did that, but people apparently weren't that interested in the late 80's.
I'd say the Primera P10 had a part as well - all 3 of the aforementioned were great steers
I don't know if there's any truth to it but I was once told that Ford copied the suspension setup of the Primera for the Mondeo because it handled so well.
Sounds like cobblers, during the development the Primera and the Honda Accord were used as benchmarks that the Mondeo had to surpass before the design was finalised. That's different from saying Ford copied any design features from the Primera.
For example the front MacPherson strut that almost all cars use (including the Mondeo and Primera) was a Ford development from the 1940's.
The Primera had a double wishbone type set up at the front with the hub turning independently from the strut.

The design was closer to the Revoknuckle suspension used on the Focus RS than the traditional set up on the front of the Mondeo, it's one of the main reasons the Primera handled so well.

I think there was bugger all difference.

I wouldn't really want either, but I'd have the Ford overall.

Time is a strange thing. It robs some cars of their desirability, yet it gives to others. I remember these Toyota SuperSaloons as being embarrassing bits of tat in their day - yet I now find it strangely attractive.
I still view that as an embarrassing piece of tat.

It has that odd quality that Japanese car makers have perfected and persists today of making perfectly good cars incredibly unappealing.

There certainly wasn't on paper. The cvh was a hateful engine though.

I like the E24 but I think the E28 looks better. And yes, I like those alloys too.
