Honestly my other half wouldn't notice - no need to cage it.....

My track car before I put a cage in it you could jack it up on one corner and if the door was open you couldn't shut it, if it was shut you couldn't open it

When I fitted a full welded in cage the difference was amazing Mrs BC couldn't notice the difference but if you jacked up one corner the doors opened and shut as if it was sitting in all four wheels.
What car was that?

Quite a few 1980s and early 1990s cars flexed that badly. Citroen AX - park it with two wheels on the kerb and you can't shut the boot. Or maybe just one wheel. Can't remember how bad it was

Spotted this 306 Cabrio on Gumtree, only £1,500 and 47,000 miles:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/peugeot/peugeot-306-cabr...

This 306 is very local to me so I asked the Mrs if funds might be made available, denied! smile
How local? Interested in viewing on my behalf?

Approx. 3 miles from me, I've emailed you back!
MOT History suggests a lot of sitting around in its recent history

Wow now this is retro. Mk 2 Cavalier SRI 1985

That's interesting, but quite expensive. This is more everyday, but looks better than a lot of cars for sale for £1k (assuming the MoT's a reasonable length).

I love the SRI, brings back fond memories of Dad having one from work and what made it much better than his 1.6 is the way it pulled from 60 to about double that....followed by a practical demonstration. I'm not exactly sure how I old I was but around 10 years old I reckon, as I was still sat int he back.
No love for the 1.8L I'm afraid.

That's a great looking Monza

Somehow I'm not surprised that they flex a bit!

Yeah it's that damn Hatchback opening - really compromises rigidity

Oh

It only has middle sills from the rear wheels to half way along the sills then they stop

The front chassis rails built into the monocoque stop before that

There is no overlap between the front rails and the rear chassis rails built into the monocoque

But fit a welded 8 point cage from front suspension to rear suspension and all those issues no longer apply.....

I have some bad news

10 mins after that shot I threw it onto it's roof.............

Best picture I have of it

Yeah - rolled at somewhere between 9am and 10am - to be honest the exact time is a bit blurry

Review of the day here

Back out on track after lunch wink

Pricey.... and the goofy looking retro fit sunroof that was never fitted to them new would be hugely off putting for me (and maybe prospective future buyers)

Big thanks to Oobster for his assistance today

To keep the idea of distance viewing and first inspection of a car a long way from you going, if anyone needs a car looking at near Darlington / Scotch Corner area drop me a line.

Re listed again now. Always makes me think the owner was pushing the bids up.

Not sure how much these go for so could end up over thread budget, but what a rare thing.

You know, this makes me wonder - perhaps we should have a thread where people with the ability to look a car over can post their location, to save wasted journeys for others?

Awesome smile. XU9 on twin Solex, tuned by the same guy who did the AX sport. It should reach comfortably over 5k, looks in good nik.

A well known car in "the clubs", it will fetch top dollar for the type and as such can be used (once it sells) as a bench mark price for the type.

Even by today's standards a fantastically comfortable drive. I cannot think of a much better car for use as as weekender or even as a relaxing 5o mile commuter car with low tax. Hard day at work and normal slow traffic on the way home over our crap road surfaces ? just relax !

All of this Citroen nonsense got me looking for an XM. I found this. (terrible quality pictures, though they may have been distorted by the time machine)

I believe the gearbox was replaced with a good one, the garage is a well know and respect Citroen specialist.....all I know

They've had that XM for a looong time. I large part of me wants an XM, but it would have to be a hatch.

Yes, a bit better because of the extra weight IMHO.

There is always the Xantia ACTIVA if you can ever find one these days, waft PLUS st crazy cornering skills that boggle the mind and leave those who have not driven one doubting your words about them. Unbelievable cars to those unwashed by them.
