39 years old when I got my VXR8, so a wait of 21 years from passing my test to dream car.

I'd say to the OP just go for it if there's any chance, life's to short. I used a huge amount of man maths to make mine workable with the missus.

I was determined to be in a VXR8 before I turned 40 years old. Used the mantra that even if I only run if for a year at least I’ve done it. Still got it 3.5 years later although it’s nearly broke me (or the other way round!) Just can’t get rid now and can’t imagine what I’ll ever change it for apart from another.
Nearly broke you?! In a bad way? As someone who ownes one, apart from rose tinted goggles, how are they as an everyday car?
Considering I do maybe 5-7k miles a year, I don't think fuel cost will bother me. I do the same on the bike at 27mpg.
I'm neither a hooligan on the brakes either but do love straigtliners! smile
Yeah, just this last 12 months had some bigger bills than standard wear and tear parts. New gearbox being the biggest, not a common part to go on these although mine had done 110,000 miles when it went.

As an every day car they are brilliant, massive inside with a huge boot. I average about 21mpg and that is with a lot of commuting in traffic on 30mph limit roads. Also just the noise and size of it, certainly makes the drive home better after a day at work.

Gratuitous pic below smile

Bought my Boxster Turbo last year when I was 46. It's quite nice, but my dream car has always been a Lamborghini. I'd love a Gallardo Superleggera or a Balboni. Unless I get a lottery win, a Countach and Miura will sadly forever be out of my range.

Was quite tempted by a Jalpa a couple of years ago though.

Ive always had more quirky cars we bought and did up a bit, at 20 I had a Mk1 MR-2 Non T-Bar and it was ace, loved tht car.

But ive owned a DC2 that I restored from the ground up and it was fantastic, but my 350z from last year was the best car I owned, looked good, ace engine and comfy, but a 65mile commute reality check meant she had to go.

Now got a DC5 which is good fun.

Dream Car is a Cayman but will be a couple of years yet, house, wedding and maybe small children will come first, but I will get one smile

The Mrs may(by which I mean WILL) kill me. Shes not a car person so just wouldn't, however selling the DC5 and a small loan should see a nice early cayman without her going 'The full mental'

someone posted before about using "man maths" I like that we all have used that before to persuade the better half that having a car that does 16mpg is a good and necessary thing

I was 40 when I bought my boyhood dream car, although to be honest I never considered as a realistic possibility until about 2 years before I took the plunge, so I can't pretend to have spent my life working towards it.

Been lucky enough to have a couple of dream cars over the years, but my first one started back as a boy in 1977 when I saw the film "The Spy who loved me". Ever since that I'd wanted a Lotus Esprit.

Finally in the late 90's I took the plunge and bought this. Kept it for about 12 years. Still brings a smile to my face when I see another one on the road.

That is lovely. Always my dream car as a teenager.

Love the Countach. I had many pictures of lambo's on my wall as a kid, they were just awesome!

I'm hankering after a TVR, I know they seem a little easier to get hold of as a dream car, but since I looked at a T350c in 2003 Ive wanted one! Nearly bought one last year but the house purchase took priority. Hoping 2016 will finally see one resting in my garage.

Above that, I could only think of a Bugatti Veyron which will always be a dream...

Always wanted a Skyline, from a young age and once I started earning decent money I started saving.
Planned to buy one when I reached 25.

A month before my 23rd birthday ... I went out an bought one. R33 GTST 4 door

Still have it and just as amazing as I had expected , although I still have plenty to do to to it, and it's the first car I've owned where I can't see me sellin it for a long time .

Back in 1988 or 1989 I went to the Motor show and saw on display was the big brother of what I had as a daily driver at the time. I had this (1.8i 4 pot with a 5 speed manual) and a stupid number of company miles piled on to it

I said to myself on day I’d own one but I expected it to take a while at £49,000 it was double the cost of my mortgage at the time so finance was out of the question – my logic was new cars depreciate fast and a big Vauxhall with or without the Lotus influence should have depreciated like a brick.

Unfortunately it didn’t depreciate like a brick and whilst I satisfied my short term needs with a succession of Senator and Carlton 6 pot cars in both 12 and 24V flavours the "daddy" was just out of reach.

Back in 1998 I was at a show held at Hethel to celebrate the lotus 50th aniversary (might have been 50 years at Hethel doesn't say on my certificate of attendance)and I spotted one tucked at the back of the workshop looking a little sorry for itself as it appeared that it wasn’t part of the celebration.

It’s had an interesting life as it was used in the Top Gear review on Lotus Carltons by a certain Tiff Needell – gave it a bit of a pasting round the Hethel track – no links to the Video but it can easily be found on youtube

The car featured in the History of Lotus Cars under Type104 (volumes 1 2 or 3)

It’s also the “last” one built (albeit unoffically as it was built a year or two after the original production run of 950 cars) However Vauxhall declined the request to have it allocated a build number of 0951G so Lotus gave it a build number of 0000G.

Anyway enough of the history how did it end up with me - I wrote a letter to Lotus and asked if it ever came up for sale I would be interested in purchasing it, they never responded but now living a few miles away from Hethel I had a few contacts at the factory so when I heard it was going to be sold in a sealed bid auction to Lotus Employees I rang to ask if they would consider a bid from outside – the answer was yes and at the end of the bidding process (and 11 years on from when I first saw one) and 4 years after I saw it hiding in the corner of a workshop I finally got this.

13 years later I still have it but later this year it’s very likely we will part company as it really is time for someone else to have some fun with it.

I was considering getting a noble / ultima / sagaris or even pushing the boat out for a F430 however decided to buy a flat instead, now things are looking up I'm still considering it but without a garage and in a slightly dodgy area I'd worry too much.....now it's a bigger deposit for the next place frown

My dream car is a Lotus Elise... yes, I aim high wink

I drove one along with a 911 Turbo, Vantage, R8 and a generic Ferrari at an experience day. The Elise was by far the most involving driving experience... I was hooked.

I was saving up for one before I discoverd the Vauxhall VX220 and 1 year later, at the age of 31 ended up with this:

Good times smile

ah the crushed dreams of youth. Wait until you have to buy a bungalow for your mother in law to live in.
That BMW 335i is such a good car

When I first saw pictures of the Escort Cosworth when I was 12 I said to myself I'd have one by the time I was 25. Took me a little longer because I got it 3 weeks before my 30th Birthday.
