How long until you got your dream car or a great car?
Discussion
From about the age of 11 I began saving for a car. In 94 when 21 I got was drinking with an old family friend at my sister's wedding and he'd just been punted off the track a couple of times by Wheeler's drivers and missed out on the Tuscan challenge trophy and decided to sell me his factory Griff for a stupid price to annoy PW. That was my dream car.
6/7 years later in 2001 I saw the Typhon at a motorshow and it became my new dream car. Put a deposit down for one. I finally got it in 2011!
Once I finally finish building the 2 door Rangie I'll have my two dream cars covering most aspects of road usage.
Do miss the Griff though.

When I was growing up, my 'dream' car was a mk1 MR2. By the age of 23 I owned one and loved it. Owned it for 7 years and travelled through most of Western Europe in it.
Then I went for a VX220, which although it was another 'dream' car, it did not match the MR2. It out handled and performed the MR2, but the MR2 is the better road car...

My first car was a V6 Capri. It was awesome and I remember thinking it was fast. Heh! I think they only had about 138 BHP or something. Great thing to drive to school though - really wound up the staff.
Got a 964 at 28, maybe 29. In hindsight, a really lovely thing. Not enough power, but lovely sound and I really enjoyed how small it was compared to modern cars - a 964 is like a 3/4 scale model.
Stupidly sold it and bought a Mk1 GT3 at 34-ish. Enjoyed that car a lot - though really didn't track it enough and you cannot fully appreciate a GT3 on the road.
Those were the days...doubt I will ever have any of my dream cars - though never say never...

My recently departed C63 Coupe is probably the highlight for me and when I had that car I didn't really lust after many others within reason (so 38). Epic epic car and I need a V8 back in my life and hope the new C63 is as good.
My original dream was for a 2001 Audi S3 in black which I got, I loved the subtle but wide looks and the excellent Recaro seats.
Dreams change all the time though...
My current dream car is probably a 458 Spider which I hope to have one day sat alongside a new C63S Estate in my 6 car garage

I always wanted a Lotus after playing Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 on the Amiga on my 8th birthday.
As I grew up I went from wanting an Elan to an Esprit, then the Elise came out, but when the time to buy one finally came around, my priorities had changed and I was rather smitten by something else...
So at 27 I bought my Caterham:
I've had it just over 3 years and I still love it. I still wouldn't say no to an Elise/Exige, and I fancy a V8 at some point, but I can't see me parting with this for a long time.

13 years later I still have it but later this year it’s very likely we will part company as it really is time for someone else to have some fun with it.
What a fantastic post! I've seen that last picture on here before from you, but never knew the story. I'd love to be in a position to buy one, one day.
Not my era (they stopped production a few years before I was born) but I have wanted one for years. 170+ mph in the early nineties, in a four door saloon is ace!
Ace.

Next dream car was the r34 skyline and now they aren't dropping in price but are climbing in maintenance costs, rust etc so that's not an economical choice anymore. Also, modern regular cars offer similar power figures as the ageing Godzilla.
I've got this issue. Always wanted a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth but they're either going up in Value or in need of a lot of money spending so they're getting further away from my grasp rather than closer.I would've actually been really happy to just own a tatty one a few years back when they where easy to find sat under £4K.
I change my mind about what I'm after too quickly (usually in the space of a single commute )to find a 'great' car!
In the days when I didn't even have enough cash to run a crappy 950cc Fiesta my 'realistic' dream cars were a Corrado G60/VR6 and any TVR.
Got this at age 37! VR6, kept it 3 years, it was just great.
Turned 40 before I finally got a TVR. Had it nearly 6 years now though...
My outstanding car ambitions are quite modest. I'd be perfectly happy ending-up with one of these, either a GTR or Can-Am. Don't hanker after a Ferrari or Lambo etc, just a British kit car to have a Near-Death Experience in every time I drove it.

Got my TVR 280i a couple of years ago, restoration should be finished in a couple of months after which I hope to keep it for a long time. Its a great car to me even if when finished it'll be a little slow for some!
My attainable dream car is a Griffith and my unlikely to attain car is a Gallardo

The car I've wanted most since I was little was a blue turbo Impreza with gold wheels. After a string of automotive failures and some "fast" bmws, at 24, I finally got one!
It's a 16 year old UK model. Aim low and you shall prevail!
I feel nicely content but no longer having a car to aim for feels a little odd.

i got hooked on classics at a young age. my dream cars are therefore pretty much unreachable save for a lottery win, ridiculous market crash or some other such freak event. 356 speedster would be the cheapest in this bracket, ferrar's 250 series being the upper end.
realistic dream car is a pre '73 911 done to my spec. this will happen sooner or later even if i start from a basket case.
as for 'great' cars they have only happened over the last few years starting with the seven i bought for my 31st. the clio cup and elise were both bought in the last 12mths.
love the clio, sequential flat shift is soooo addictive and it handles brilliantly. not a keeper though, unlike the elise which i hope stays with me for a lot of years to come.
