Had an E46 M3 for the last 3 years and absolutely love it. Wasn't my dream car per se, but I'd always aspired to owning an M car.

As far as dream cars go, due to the constant appreciation, I think one of these will remain a dream:

I'm 30 and have had my driving license for 11 years. I have had countless cheap fun cars but never anything properly fancy. 5 days ago I picked up a 2015 BMW 420iA xDrive Gran Coupe F36 because I have matured and felt the urge for a relaxing daily driver. It basically has every option I wanted. I thought I would continue to lust immensly after a proper sportscar (since it's my only car ATM), but surprisingly it is so good and so cool that I am grinning far more than expected. I consider it a great car.

Hm depends how high you want to set the bar:
MX5 when I was 26
Elise when I was 34
First Caterham when 35 (did the academy in it) and the superlight at 37 I think

Discovery was a nightmare, if that's relevant!

The superlight is still my dream car I think

9 years, 11 months from passing driving test to owning my E90 330i.

I remember reading this shortly after passing my test - "Many BMW 330i owners will never know just how good their car is" http://www.pistonheads.com/roadtests/doc.asp?c=100... The reviewed model cost £28,455 back then, and I'd just bought my first car for £1100.

It hasn't been my dream all along though, I'm not a dreamer but I've wanted and resisted various hot hatches along the way and made do with a few sub-£2k 10 year old shopping hatchbacks.

I remember having this as my desktop wallpaper for quite a while:

I'm still waiting for my dream FD RX7. A few years ago I could have got it, but instead we decided to follow the wife's dream of travelling Europe, and living in the UK.
Now I'll probably be waiting till 35. Mrs has promised!

The dream of an old 911 seems likely to always remain just out of reach.
