Keep tripping over this black one. 2X K miles from new.
I had a 240. It was quite brilliant. The seats were a little wearing after a while, however. but acres of boot space. Loved it.

I ran a 2008 2.0 TFSI Coupe for three years and it was great!

Really don't know why there's so much vitriol directed towards the TT?! The traditional 'hairdressers/womens car' comments are hilarious!

The MkIII hasn't grown on me yet, although i'm sure it will once I see more of them in the metal.

I now know why people don't like Audi TTs.
I have just had to deal with a woman at work (member of public) who was complaining about the state of the road (fair enough, I can relate to that).
She then said "it is very urgent because I drive an AUDI TT, you wouldn't understand because you probably drive some terrible small car"

Direct quote!

Pathetic badge snobbery at it's finest.

Woman at work has just had one of these arrive. Im mesmerized at the whole digital dash. She went in for a mk2 and drove away with mk3 that was in stock at Swindon. White naturally.

I want another MkI 225 or a 240 QS.

Great cars to fettle to a good performing sporty coupe at very little cost.

They AREN'T a girly light weight car to drive; they are typical Audi with heavy doors and substantial gearshift. They feel like the quality product that they are.

FWD great in the snow, try a 1000 mile winter weekend trip in a rwd Bimmer.
Yeah apparently it also shortens braking distances in the snow. It finds adhesion when there is none.

Or you could use winter tyres, whether front, rear or 4wd.

Forget the Audi. Mull is a great place to visit. Okay I'm a bit biased but a great island to get away from it all with plenty to see/do for a long weekend.
I totally agree - but then I'm a tad biased too. cool I only wish I'd managed to take the Cerb over there before I let her go...

Don't mind the Audi TT, as long as it's the TT-RS. However, I'm far more interested about Pistonheads doing the Tour of Mull. A perfect excuse for numerous trips to the island for recce purposes. Oh, and when not driving to visit the distillery.

The only wearing thing on the seats is the bit of the side bolster that you drag your bum across when you get out.

After a couple of weeks you get the hang of getting in and out.

FWIW, the seats are the only ones of all the cars I've had in the last thirty years that don't give me backache after a couple of hours, despite the fact that the only adjustability is back and forwards.

Just to clarify the 'Tour of Mull' ended in 2009 after 40 years!

The event since then has been the 'Mull Rally' !

The TTRS is a performance monster. The rest of the range is pretty much impossible to justify. A Golf is better in all respects except the badge and girly styling.

hehe

What makes me laugh is that some people insist they need AWD yet rubbish winter tyres. If the tyres can't find traction, it doesn't matter whether they're on drive wheels or not.

Thank you sir. They're not expensive, are plenty quick enough for me, and look just soo right. Pretty good to drive apparently after being fettled compared to a standard 225 too. Shouldn't depreciate too much either now I would have thought.

First of all, this is the best article I've read on PH in a long time! Let's face it, the TT isn't the most PH of cars and every motoring publication/website will have reviewed it, so focussing on the adventure and the drive is a good call. Mull has been added to my list of places to visit, a few years back I did a trip from Lewis to South Uist, the roads were great, there was hardly any traffic and I didn't see any speed cameras etc.

I agree with the comments earlier in the thread that the mk1 TT is a design classic, the Quattro Sport was the only non-RWD car on my shortlist when I bought my MR2. I can't see the mk1s depreciating much more though. I'm not as convinced by the mk2/mk3 though, the styling is more generic and I think they're more of a poseurs car then a drivers car. I like the idea of the screen being in the instrument cluster, to many car interiors are spoilt by an iPad like screen bolted to the dash - Mercedes A Class for example.
