What's the tax? 26mpg is not too great but not terrible, and maybe a little on the large side. I want to like Audi's but I find the looks so dull (except the A5's and TTS) frown

Must be a rare car, you don't see many. I saw a A8 4.2 TDI at aucton on a 2005 plate with just 31k sell for £12,100 + £600 fee's, I thought that was fairly steep for a 10 year old car, but I imagine that is a good all round package, shame they are so massive!
Tax is £500/year but frankly on any of these kind of cars an extra £215 per year is a drop in the ocean so I don't pay it much heed. It is a big car, 1770kg and over 4.9m long but it has huge interior space and a massive boot. The dull looks are part of the appeal to me, it conceals some fairly serious power in the most anonymous package imaginable.

The A8 4.2tdi does have some compelling numbers and is surprisingly affordable to buy but I was put off by the potential for massive bills from the air suspension and complex diesel engine. I'd rather spend my money on fueling a nice petrol V8!

For one thing Max tax is £485. And the second is that the car lower than that would £295 IIRC. This means you're saving £200 a YEAR. Just keep that in mind when ruling out an otherwise perfect car.

For example my 335i is £485 but it was roughly £3k below the cost of a £295 example (look at MY2008)....it'd take me 15 years of ownership to make up the difference. Nonsensical.

Oh I thought a 335i was 200-300 not £485!? What yeah is it? 2008? You do make a very valid point though, I just have the mindse that I don't mind buying something for X amount that I've saved up, but I then like minimal additional costs. The Z4 has been great in this respect.

Oh ok, so 2007/08 etc all fine. I wonder why the ones before that were more? Did they change anything?

it's a minfield trying to work out the auto gearbox differences too between the 2006-09 335 and the 2005-mid 07 535, then the post mid 07 535 with the SAT.

Hi John,

I took a deposit on it, but the chap never came back, so I took it off sale, use it once every few weeks if that.

Hope you're well!
