Not a great fan of black wheels, but they look pretty good on my daily driver...

Very nice but they are OEM fitted and on a Porsche who have special dispensation wrt fitting black rims. Still in two minds if I should fit some aftermarket wheels on mine but I like to keep my cars standard and the black/white contrast isn't too bad.

PS: have you considered getting the rear vertical wing elements on yours? They definitely help with rear end stability on the motorway especially above 190mphtongue out

Well, my 1:43 scale model has them... does that count?

So we've decided it is car/colour/wheel style dependant then, phew...glad we cleared that up!

I've dabbled with dark wheels in the past, but always anthracite, this was about 15 years ago:

Only one I can think of right now is the Impreza RB320. I think black wheels are standard on these and they suit the car well.
A dark grey rather than black, and better for it, but yes it did suit the car.

I think this thread proves that very few cars look better with black wheels and that no car is improved simply by plonking black wheels on it.

The ones where it does work all seem to have either rim tape, polished rims or contrasting (usually body colour) callipers behind the wheel giving it a visual “lift”.

Hence the Clio in post #2 looks good – it has red callipers and rim tape which somehow just works. Likewise the Lambo in post #4 with it's body coloured callipers. And then there are numerous Ferraris etc that all sport body coloured callipers. They look good.

But the Pug 205 on page 5, the various Gtis and any big Merc riding on black rims simply look gash.

Note the first two words that DJP wrote: "I think". Does that not suggest he is expressing his own opinion? It's an opinion I share as well; black wheels can look ok in some instances, but rarely better than alternative colours would.

Reading this thread, it's almost as if some folk like black wheels and some don't?

Can't quite see how some see that black wheels equates to being a chav though?

Yes agreed but 'Proves' would imply that he has read all the replies and most of the replies are against black wheels, which is not the case. I think it is a fair split of some liking and some not, so what the thread proves is some like black wheels and some don't.

If you cant see what wheels those are, then like i previously said, there's something wrong with your eyes.

This car wouldn't look as good with silver wheels

Prefer gun metal dark grey wheels mostly myself . Depends on the car and the rest of the colour scheme
