As a kid the M1 was one of my favourites, along with the Lancia Beta Monte Carlos. This was all due to with the 1980 Six Hour Race at Brands Hatch [1], and the local BMW dealership kept a M1 in the window, which made walking up to the high street much easier :-)

When I worked for the Patrick Collection way back we had a white M1 road car which was registered XOX 1T.

We had some stunning cars - 288GTO, the worlds only complete collection of a road going version of every Group B car, as well as some ex- works rally cars, & a Daytona to name just a few.

Apart from the GTO & the Daytona the M1 was my number one choice when it came to the 'which car shall I go home in tonight' decision.

It was stunning to drive. An absolute joy whether you were sitting in traffic, crawling along at 15 MPH or driving briskly on the motorway.

More gratuitous flaming Pro Car pics...

This was for sale earlier this year for a $400k reserve

An original Art Car went for $850k back in 2011

Coolest picture on earth!

^^The latter rendered infinitely better by the driver's ability to heel-and-toe (and the second, flame-spitting Procar in front).

Saw one of these at Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone back in 2011. Utterly phenomenal.

Fantastic sounds.....

Saw those in the day on that very circuit and the following year at Brands Hatch. Awesome sight and sound. Happy days.
Me too, and at Donington for the Gunner Nielson Memorial Meeting.

At Silverstone (79 I think) I was camping in the centre paddock.
One of the ProCar teams were rebuilding an engine into the early hours... then fired it up.
What a jaw dropping noise to wake everybody up in the paddock (probably everyone from Brackley to Towcester)
Can't recall anyone complaining, just "did you hear that thing in the night, wow!"

Happy days

Have to agree with you about the M635 being gorgeous, and whilst it's a great sound the M88 in it doesn't quite sound like the M1 Procar unfortunately. What a noise
