What's the point?
I'm pretty sure it's removing wads of cash from very rich bored people with nothing better to spend their cash on.............North West Tom said:
I really don't understand all the "I'd rather have this for that money" or "I'd have this and £XXk change". Not just in this thread but any thread about new cars. Bore off. Life isn't about value for money (unless you're Martin Lewis).
Well I do as my finances have a finite limit and I really cannot see why anyone would pay this much for one of these. So blah, blah, blah but I would rather spend this sort of money on an M135i, 235i, GT86 and a 500 twin-air (they sound like a proper 500), etc. if I had it!
But still fair play to Abarth for doing it at all.
When you get products as desirable and cool as this, price doesn't really matter. I think it's magnificent. I sat in a standard 500 abarth convertible with a slightly fancier seat option a few months ago - an £18k or so car - felt like it could sell for twice that. The seats, the steering wheel, the gear stick, digital revs and speedo screen in a little pod - it felt really really special... I've sat in a lot of cars, but the combination of compactness and style with chunk of quality is hard to beat at any price.
The standard 500 abarth is a great little car - I love how Fiat have pretty much shunned the "faster is better" nonsense that's infected most brands (and oddly many "enthusiasts" minds), and have instead made 5 cylinder stilos, 100hp pandas, and this current range of abarths (and I suppose the standard twinair versions).
Best car Fiat/Alfa make, by a long way. If they keep up the light hearted thing, they'll overtake the Germans. Who wants a joyless lump of heavy plastic for a cabin? Who decided soft plastic was high quality?! Mon' the Italians.

Hey yeah - people shouldn't talk about stuff on a discussion forum - stop that immediately...The moment someone puts a price-tag on something, it's value/relative cost becomes a topic of conversation whether you like it or not.
Let's be honest here - if we didn't talk about the cost, what would be be talking about?
"Hey look, there's a really smoking Fiat 500 there"
"Cool - how much is it?"
"We're not talking about that"
"Oh - OK - is it pink?"

Well the only problem with the Fiat 695 Abarth is that this is what it feels like when you drive it.
The amount they are charging for the fancy kahzi options? You need to tell the Fiat dealer - Mi fa cagare
Unfortunately very true. The amount they are charging for the fancy kahzi options? You need to tell the Fiat dealer - Mi fa cagare
That and the crap steering.
But still good fun and I applaud Abarth for making it. Seems typically full of italian madness.

Had to laugh when I saw Fiat claiming the highest ever specific output for this size of engine. My Renault 5 Gordini Turbo with no trick bits , just 5 GT Turbo pistons and liners - still with a carb, 8:1 compression ratio and just 8 valves made 189 bhp and 190 ft/lbs at 16 psi. Some old Toyota Starlets make well over 200bhp from 1.3 with standard internals and bolt on upgrades. Doesn't sound that impressive for 33k to me :0)
We had a misget with a starlet engine in it... That thing was mental rapid!!Bonkers love it... Can you imagine in an emergency braking situation on the mway being faced with one of these in front of you with the rear lift off!
Outstanding work Abarth!!
Our of curiosity I took a 595 Abarth out a few weeks ago being tempted for my daily (which is still under debate) and utterly loved it, just don't know if its a tad small

Agree with that. Got no problem with the concept or price; it's not for Joe Public. As a result, i'd salute it... if it weren't for it still being a rubbish car.
I drove a normal 500 as a hire car and it was fun and characterful. My dad then bought an Abarth and it was horrid; the issue being that when you elevate it to be judged as a 'performance' car is up against far stiffer competition. It felt incredibly unstable with god-awful steering. It was still slow, not helped by the auto that my dad's had.

'Box is an H Pattern Dog Box. Not really sure why you would really need it! And for £8.5k you could get a full blown Sadev Sequential....
Exactly! Take a standard car and throw proper racing parts at it and I am sure you would have a lighter, faster, better handling/braking car with a huge budget to actually go racing with. £1700 for plastic windows...
