Just fk off and buy a car you complete cretin. You're always asking what you should buy and then tell people why they are wrong and you are right. It's not as though you are choosing between a pagani and a Ferrari. You are choosing between two run of the mill hatchbacks. And yes I got out of bed on the wrong side.

Or you could buy an old 90s diesel saloon which cost buttons to buy and insure that if it breaks you hit with a hammer and it works again as stated on your very first thread. Get your first year of motoring out the way with something boring and cheap then get a better car like the rest of us did.

The Fiesta sitting at 4k at 70 is frankly bks.
My Grande which is a 1.4 sits at 2.8 at 70, 4k at 100.
If you want something that will cruise at 1500rpm suck it up and buy a V8 or a diesel.
Diesels do not need servicing every 20 yards and turbos do fail, but it's such a rarity that it's not even worth worrying about. Buy a 100k miler Saab/BMW/VX/Ford and it'll have little issues.

I drove a 190,000 mile 51 plate Citroen C5 a couple of months ago and it drove as well as my 50,000 mile 58 plate Grande Punto.

You're not going to listen to any of this and either going to continue to whine about the Fiesta or ignore this response completely.

Or, how about a "radical" idea? Wait a year, get some no claims and buy a better cruiser than a Fiesta, such as a BM/Owdi,Merc, Saab instead? But as above, this will get ignored.

Not that I'm ganging up here, but well said.

These threads are like Ground Hog day. OP, are you Bill Murray?

How are you getting insured for so little?

I have been looking for my son, and we are being quoted about the same for a 1.0 Aygo/C1/107 after he passes his test.

Don't think this is his first car. His second.

If you can stomach the Vauxhall badge, Vauxhall do the Corsa for 190 a month, drop £100 for insurance and you get the whole year. You do get a telematics box but it looks a good deal.

You're young and want a hatchback. Yes, no problem sir, bend over sir. You'll get reamed on insurance for a hatchback. Get a bigger car, it doesn't matter if you don't 'need' the space, it will give you massive savings on insurance going for a car that not many 17 year olds have driven into hedges.

The SAAB suggestion earlier would be a good shout. That and you won't look like every other 17 year old in their photocopied corsas/fiestas.

But you're 17 and you know better, so please ignore this advice. As you were. Enjoy paying your premiums rather than paying for more drinks at the weekend.

Have you got a quote on something like a Mazda 6?

I have a 1.6 litre 2005 model year civic sport (EP2)

It too has a 5 speed box. 70 mpg is 3500 rpm in 5th, 60 mph is 3000 rpm in 5th (or there abouts)

Initially, I would have liked a 6th gear to drop another 500 rpm at 70 mph, but now I'm well used to the car (covered 23,000 miles in ~21 months) and its engine characteristics, its actually alright the way it is, since its not in V-TEC (I'm not sure when that "kicks in" to be honest, maybe 4000 rpm? 4500 rpm?) but it is in a nice part of the rev range that provides enough torque to make overtakes...doable (but for safer progress selecting a lower gear is better)

On a steady 60-70 mph run, I seem to get back 46-48 mpg (calculated by working out volume of fuel added to top the tank up - always brim the tank anyway - for a given number of miles as indicated by the trip meter)

Madness?.....not really...generally saabs are driven by older, well off males...which means they avoid the "young drivermobile" price hike.
I know of someone whose insurance on a 2.0 litre turbo repmobile was about 2/3rds the price of his 1.2 corsa...insurance answer...corsas are frequently written off in crashes.....

plus bigger car..more toys, makes you look sophisticated and a "man of the world" to the females of the species ;-)
more room in the backseat too?

What year Fiesta? If it's 2003 or earlier just put a diesel Escort gearbox on it, shouldnt cost you more than £50 for the part and £150 fitting

As part of growing up you will need to learn to make decisions, you can't expect everyone to hold your hand through every decision making process. Don't think about it too much and just get on with it, Fiesta Zetecs are a good steer, look good and fuel economy is part of a bigger picture when considering running a car. Just buy the thing and if it turns out too be a bad decision then you learn from that. Enjoy the fact that you can even consider buying a car like this at 17 as not many people at your age have the capital to even afford a shagged Corsa.

Most 1.6 litre N/A cars with six gears ate gutless in sixth. If you want a motorway mile muncher buy something more suitable.

You do realise that in the time it took you (The OP) to type out yet another new topic you could have simply googled " Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 MPH per 1000RPM" and the first result gives you all the information about the gearbox that you need.

It shows that you need approximately 3550rpm to do 70mph, 5th gear gives 19mph per 1000rpm.

Also a 1 or 2 MPG at 70mph is feck all in the grand scheme of things when there are any number of components on a car that can break costing a few hundred quid that wipes out any trivial fuel saving here an there.

Id a 55 plate Mk6 Zetec S. Lovely little car. Enjoyed chucking it about, had a nice intake noise with a little dab of throttle.

3000 miles on a front set of contisport though.

I'd have one again for a little run about.

I had a 1.3 CDTI Corsa D for my first 2 years of driving, is it slow, yes. Is it aesthetic, no. Is it cheap as chips to run, YES! My first year insurance was £500, tax just over £100, 60mpg on a run and in my experience very reliable! A remap will see it slightly quicker too! Just bite the bullet and drive a st box for your first few years.

I'd you go for the 95 bhp model you even get 6 gears, just slighty more expensive to buy.

I totally understand that you want the best that you can get for your money. However, all good things come to those who wait and all that. The advantage of the 1.6 over the 1.2 isnt really that large to be honest. The Fiesta has a well developed chassis and is fun to throw around, however its no pocket rocket. Keep what you have, even send it to a local detailer for a make-over, pay it off whilst saving and racking up some no-claim years...then take your trade-in value and the money you've saved and buy something interesting in about 3 years. smile
