OP instead of replacing one turd with another (with the intention to buy another car in a year), why don't you keep your existing turd and spend another year saving up? Then you'll be able to get something better next year.

I feel what you need is a navy blue Peugeot 406 estate, automatic 2.0 petrol. Cost 350 to buy, not a lot to nsure and you can fit all the beer&/subs/drugs/women+air beds you could ever need in it. Cruises beautifully, often left unlocked and never stolen. Left for a month and fires up first shout, and when it dies I'll not care and get another. You're 18 stop giving one about the motor, get off car forums on the Internet, and go chase as many women as is humanly possible... Mtfu, etc etc. also drink 2 bottles of wine with lunch whenever possible...

How are you getting insured for so little?

I have been looking for my son, and we are being quoted about the same for a 1.0 Aygo/C1/107 after he passes his test.
Second car, my first year insurance was £2000 on a 1.2 corsa

Or you could buy an old 90s diesel saloon which cost buttons to buy and insure that if it breaks you hit with a hammer and it works again as stated on your very first thread. Get your first year of motoring out the way with something boring and cheap then get a better car like the rest of us did.
Saab 1.9 diesel (120) - £6000 to insure
Saab 1.9 diesel (150) - £7000 to insure

Please stop going on about something that's apparently 'buttons to insure'

Ffs! Another fking thread about what fking car to fking buy!

Page two of http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=... says you're going to keep it in one thread, so why the fk do we have to be subjected to this again?

Ffs!!! Just make a decision on a car, buy one and then contribute something less mundane to Ph!!

Try a jag xj 3.2. Something young people dont crash and write off is what you want.

I got quoted yesterday £378 at 20 with 6 points and 2 years no claims on a 1.6 auto ford focus.

Ended up with day insurance for £42 to drive it home haha.

Not many people are bothered the other threads were different to this, was mainly about the rpm on the 5th gear at 70 MPH on the zetec s

What?

This is on my list to buy for my second car, a Ford Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 Petrol, but I just read over and over about the fact that it does not have a 6th gear and the revs at 70 MPH is almost 4000 which is what I have on my 1.2 currently..

Surely this will have poor fuel efficiency, are there any cars that can compare to the price, the looks, and the power of the Zetec S? Obviously a car with a 6th gear, if you do know a car, please make sure it is a petrol, not anything over the top due to my insurance as I will be 18..

Quotes on a zetec a come to £1300 and it's only 99BHP
That reads like your other threads, asking for car recommendations. Search aurotrader, parkers etc, they will provide you with mpg figures.

Also, you realise bhp isn't the only thing insurance companies look at, dont you?

And you do realise that not many (any?) hatchbacks in your price range that you can afford to insure will have 6 speed gear boxes and that most hatchbacks are city cars, not motorway munchers.

1. Grande Punto Sporting. 6 speed box, but it's weak as hell, 4th gear falls apart.
5 speed is more reliable.

Agree with Angry Dog on this. Worrying about a 6th gear on a city car is a bit ridiculous. But what you like and can afford, end of.

You should be driving around in something worth a few hundred quid IMO which is probably a lot more fun and sensible.

I (personally) think too many people missunderstand the mechanical differences between the 5speed and 6speed gearboxs in most of the manual cars.

Very few (if any) have identical 1-5 ratios with an extra 6th overdrive added on top.(Somebody has mentioned this at least once on this thread).

In almost all case, the 'Top Gear' in a manual box (not semi-manual) is the same ratio, as the 5speed equivalent.

Quite. You could have a million speed gearbox with a very low final drive and still have it buzzing its tits off at 70 mph.

You could have a 2 speed gearbox with a massive jump between 1st to 2nd. We had an 05 Fiesta ST that felt under geared in top gear, around 3k at 70 I think, the new ST with an extra gear is around 2.5k at 70, did Ford stick a 6th gear in for fun ? Years ago I replaced the 4sp gearbox with a 5sp in my 3.0 Capri, it didn't hit the rev limiter in top gear after that.

All 2.8 & 3.0 RWD Capris had a 3.09 final rear diff ratio.
The Type9 5speed boxes ford produced between 1981 and 1991 had an extra overdrive section with a 0.82 gear. This lowered the final ratio.

My 81 4 speed 2.8 injection Capri hit the rev limiter in top around 129 mph, my 83 5 speed 2.8 injection turbo wound the speedo way past 130, many times.

Its quite nippy for what it is, but why at your age has it got to be the sport model, step daughter bought a zetec climate I think it was called same engine as my zetec s but a few groups lower,m kept it for 2 yrs and now has a zetec s.

No claims is what you need.
