Love old stuff like this, even if it isn't my kind of thing.

and as for road tax, wouldn't you pay the same tax a year for this as you would a Ferrari F40, Testarossa etc. so I agree it needs looking at!!

I remember getting smoked by one of these back in the late eighties! My old Saab would give the XR3i's and the like of the day a decent run for their money so I didn't expect a tiny brown box to give me much trouble.

Then it quite literally flew past me, going up Blue Bell Hill heading towards Rochester!

Back in the late 80's as a student i ran a renault 11 with the same 1.7 engine.

Ok, its not going to be quick by modern standards but at the time it was pretty respectable performance, remember gti's etc were around 8-9 seconds 0-60 back then. As above i had mine as it was as quick as say, an XR2 but buttons to insure.

I'd expect that 5 to fly smile

So much want.

10/10.

Love, love, love these. They need to make more small luxury cars again. I'd have this, a 205 Gentry and a Metro Vanden Plas all next to each other in my lottery garage.

My wife had a Renault 5 GT Turbo for a while - lovely car. At the time I also had a company car, a Vauxhaul Belmont - not so lovely.

We took the 5 everywhere, even to the south of France on holiday once. I'd happily have another one, trouble is that they've all be Max Powered or are original and thus very strong money (way more than shed budget).

The n/a ones do nothing for me. Although the suprememe beigeness of that interior is quite something to behold.
OE look is the "thing" now. Check out Brigsy's motor on turborenault.co.uk - YUM! http://www.turborenault.co.uk/members/46/

I like this Shed and generally Renaults from this era.

I remember a guy from work having a 21 Monaco and was impressed with how comfortable it was and how well it drove.

I'd completely forgotten about the Monaco spec Reggies. Wonder if it still manages hilarious roll angles?

Oh you would hope so! I used to pilot a much lesser 1.3 cooking model and it was an absolute hoot to roll around corners in, once you got used to the rather alarming angles of pitch achievable you would find it clung on way beyond the grip of its rivals. I used to have a little Jack Russel at the time who used to stand with her paws on the dash and she would lean into corners like a biker! Miss that car (eventually the floor fell out!) and that little dog!

That depreciated down to £85 in its first three years and has remained there ever since, the 25 did cut a mild dash at the time, sort of one up from a Granada or Senator, I suspect this one could keep you pretty busy.

From Gov.uk

"Vehicle enquiry

Registration number: F881 ABO
Taxed

Tax due: 01 March 2015

MOT

Expires: 04 January 2015

New keepers must get tax before using the vehicle. Please be aware that if you have taxed, made a SORN or had an MOT in the last 5 days these details may not have updated."

3 weeks MoT. frown

N.B. Tried to put some of the above in bold but the formatting isn't working.

45,000 miles and a French classic style regardless of turbo or not.....scrubbed up its a steal of a car for all that's wrong with it at £750.....if you simply wanted cooler just repaint it a slightly more glary metallic brown, add a set of low profile shod sympathetic alloys on it and you would draw crowds at parking lots....If I was in UK at the mo I would have it.

They were marketed as aspirational but the depreciation curve suggests the public never really bought into that image

Similar money, long MoT.
A barried wannabe-Williams is more appealing than an OE spec classic? OK.

OK, I've been waiting, and nobody else has said it, so "you wouldn't want to crash in one of those..."

Of course having owned a contemporary AX 1.4, and still riding a bike, I'm clearly dead and my opinion doesn't count...

I got rid of mine (hateful thing) after both A-pillars rusted through from the inside. Structural integrity? hmmm
