Below thread budget but this s124 (220) looks good value at £795...

Why is it so cheap?
I'm half tempted even though I've already got one. Either there's something (or a few somethings) up with it or this guy is trying to tank the market just to impoverish me!

No idea, the seller seems to be into his barges, runs an old rolls etc. Would be nice to think he's just looking for a quick sale a week before Christmas. If it was local I'd go and take a look.

I think it's probably just as he says...he just wants a quick sale? It appears to be a decent enough, base spec 220 Estate? At this end of the market he could probably stick it out for a £Grand more...but then that might take time on a 220? In this day and age, realistically, what does an extra 1K really buy in the world of repairing cars?

I'm sure it's very nice, but 5 grand for a fifteen year old, non-Sport, 740i?
Ah! True, I didn't notice (and because there are no pics) that it's a non-Sport. But I paid over £4K for my 2001 728i Sport, albeit with significantly lower miles at the time and don't regret paying that kind of money for it.

I was just thinking that at less than £1K more than I paid for my car that might not be a bad deal?

Is this proof that the UK market is way behind Europe?

I would suggest that this would be virtually unsaleable in the UK at even a quarter of the price being asked for it? Yet this LHD seller seems confident:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-740-iL-Auto-LWB-4-4L...

Pre-facelift?...This colour scheme for an E38...This mileage...and then LPG and LWB? In the U.K....£5K? Really?

I don't think so?

I don't know BMW prices, but Jag XJ40 are much, much more expensive on the continent - and in the UK, for that matter, if they are left hand drive. That could be down to supply of RHD being so much greater, but the difference is huge. Several times more for a lhd decent car.

I have dispatched my father to go and have a look at this later today. Fortunately, it's in my home town. Unfortunately, I live 85 miles away and work 120 miles away.

It's not "the one" - but it looks like a good entry to ownership, and should be easy enough to move on when I find my perfect bornite babe.

I've told him to take his wallet... hehe

Good for you radiodanno.

If it were closer to me, I'd buy it unseen just because. I'd park it next to mine and then invite the wife to choose which one she wants. And then probably keep both!

At that price, you can't go wrong.

Excellent, keep us posted. I'm glad it's not near me for that very reason! However you can't really go wrong at that money. Even the private plate must be worth a couple of hundred quid.

Good luck radioman.

This 260 E we've had before but it looks like the vendor is getting rid of it at any price. Could be a bargain for someone, although it is not perfect:

I like these too, but the numbers aren't great - compared with say, a 2005 Jag S-type 4.2, it's £500 tax, no better on fuel, over a second slower 0-60, no V8, almost certainly more reliable but...hmm.

Don't suppose GSF has much in the way of bits for a rarity like this, do they?
The S-type does little for me, especially inside, where the Legend strangely I find very appealing, even the wood (which is rare for me). I've ticked off V8 but not V6 which should be smoother, and I'd hope being a Honda that trips to GSF wouldn't be required. I wouldn't consider one if tax/mpg were a concern.

That delicious. There's a k reg 124 in a similar colour at a house round the corner, very classy. What's wrong with it?

Oh no! A green, 4 door, 6 cylinder W124 is the last thing I need. Money will be resting in my account later this week. I must resist.

As this is smoke silver it would make an excellent addition to your collection for a mere £3,995

People don't buy cars near Christmas and the 4 door is a limited market. Could be a bargain (or the ad could be hiding something that is only apparent on viewing the car!)
