That delicious. There's a k reg 124 in a similar colour at a house round the corner, very classy. What's wrong with it?
People don't buy cars near Christmas and the 4 door is a limited market. Could be a bargain (or the ad could be hiding something that is only apparent on viewing the car!)
I think the fact that the car has poverty spec upholstery (its not even velour or sportline cloth) and is an early example (Not subject to the 1989 face lift) has to count against it from a value point of view.... Also, whilst i personally like the colour - Green does tend to polarise opinion.

I viewed a W126 500 SEC at this chaps place a few months ago, his descriptions are ok - not inaccurate but he perhaps doesn't list some cosmetic bits which I would list.

I suspect his stock (or some of it) comes from Amersham auction rooms as his pitch is literally opposite their premises. My FIL lives nearby and spotted the W126 some time ago as being advertised as going through the auction, it then showed up at the site opposite.

He does get some eclectic stock.

I'd love a C140 V12 and that one perhaps doesn't look bad value.

Good luck radioman.

This 260 E we've had before but it looks like the vendor is getting rid of it at any price. Could be a bargain for someone, although it is not perfect:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-F-MERCEDES-W124-260...

Oh no! A green, 4 door, 6 cylinder W124 is the last thing I need. Money will be resting in my account later this week. I must resist.

As this is smoke silver it would make an excellent addition to your collection for a mere £3,995

This is a beautiful car to my eyes. It was for sale on Autotrader a while back, seemed like a private ad, think the asking was £4k, may have been 5. Bit tight for cash at the moment otherwise my fingers would be itching over this one.

Below thread budget but this s124 (220) looks good value at £795...

Why is it so cheap?
I'm half tempted even though I've already got one. Either there's something (or a few somethings) up with it or this guy is trying to tank the market just to impoverish me!
I think it's probably just as he says...he just wants a quick sale? It appears to be a decent enough, base spec 220 Estate? At this end of the market he could probably stick it out for a £Grand more...but then that might take time on a 220? In this day and age, realistically, what does an extra 1K really buy in the world of repairing cars?
I have dispatched my father to go and have a look at this later today. Fortunately, it's in my home town. Unfortunately, I live 85 miles away and work 120 miles away.

It's not "the one" - but it looks like a good entry to ownership, and should be easy enough to move on when I find my perfect bornite babe.

I've told him to take his wallet... hehe
Excellent, keep us posted. I'm glad it's not near me for that very reason! However you can't really go wrong at that money. Even the private plate must be worth a couple of hundred quid.
Update please! This looked like an excellent buy!

I've always loved smoke silver but the two tone interior just makes that. Looks absolutely superb.

This 129 500 SL caught my eye. Maybe a bargain for one prepared to travel to the Province. Looks good in anthracite metallic.

Old merc prices are strange - for the price of this W124 220 cabro http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C568677 , you could have the V12 coupe above, the SL500 V8, and the 220 estate. With change laugh

I'm sure it's a great example but I would definitely err on the side of more metal (and cylinders!) for my money!

Well that's nice. I wonder what it will go for? Familiarity is breeding the opposite of contempt with my car. I think I might have found the best car I've ever owned. I'm becoming a R129 evangelist.

The money that these can command is a little odd. In theory, surely they should never be pitched above a R129 SL taking the pecking order when new into account?

I know they're a true four seater but does that really matter now it's more likely to be a second or third car?

I took my wife out in mine last night. First time out of the garage for three weeks or so. It was immaculate, the product of many hours of sneaking in there and polishing it up. 60 miles later and it was filthy. But what pleased me so much was how it dispensed with a cheeky old Subaru Impreza coming out of a tight roundabout onto a dual carriageway. Wife went mental, of course. I've brought it to work today, too. What with petrol being so cheap at the moment, I might as well get some use out of it.

I guess it's all based on volume? There are just so many more R129s?

But here's a whole page off 220 Cabs all north of £10K:
