That's all very sweet, but which of you was swotty enough to zero the trip at 299,876?

Higher levels of attainment going on there.

Now that is taking it too far imo!

MNNN a bottle of wine and a read through this paperwork the weekend after you have purchased it (I don't like the car that much though!).
My better half described me as a 'saddo' when I sat down to leaf through the 500SL's hefty file and made intermittent exclamations of joy about such items as 'new droplinks in 2003'.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

The 124 passed a milestone tonight as I journey to Walsall. I phoned my wife to tell her. She told me to go in the back of the glovebox wherein I found a small present: a pair of 300,000mile cufflinks. We are a very sad family.

Must get on: another 60 miles to go before bedtime.

ETA: I know how dangerous the hard shoulder is.
Congratulations Jonathan! Only another 178k and it'll have been to the moon and back!

Digits misaligned, it's clearly been clocked. hehe

Also, is the 124 on the trip meter coincidental? Knowing this thread and its denizens, I can't believe it is...

No chance. Someone has been counting cards. We're counting cards. I'm an excellent driver.

What does he mean by 'second rear window'? Surely not just a comment on the design? Or a spare?

I know it's a-car-for-a-grand, and it's probably epic, but I just couldn't. I love the C-series and the DS, but that would terrify me.

There's another screen to stop the cold from getting in when you open the hatch which is also hinged in case you need a through load

You cant stuff your fancy gadgets, that's luxury!

Almost bought a V6 once, but it sold before I could get there. The guy who I bought my CX from picked me up from the station in his and it seemed lovely.

That is even more luxurious than heated seats. V clever, and typically French!

Very rare these days and that's a decent engine choice so long as the turbo is good - regular oil changes required. Looks to have had a lot of money spent sorting the suspension. As a long time BX 16V owner that doesn't terrify me at all as an ownership choice but you would need to bank on spending almost the purchase price a year in routine upkeep

I so want one of these. Not a fan of the incorrect headlights, but otherwise this looks a decent buy.

That's what would make it hard for me to get an R129 SL. I think I like the XJS just slightly more....

The R129 doesn't seem to be a natural competitor to the XJS as it's a roadster.

The option of open air motoring is what attracted me to the 500SL.

I think I'd almost always keep the top up anyway.

Also there are drophead versions of the XJS

Well, I think I've found the solution to that conundrum. I already have a 129 SL, and the plan is that the XJS would be as well as.

My wife takes an alternative - but patently incorrect - view. I think I'm going to sell my 124 cabrio, and that leaves a car-sized hole in my life.

Mine has had the windscreen out and back in again this week.

Hopefully banishing one or more of the leaks. We will see.

I don't think that kind of faff would necessarily be part of the fun with a W129, but an SL500 would make a lovely complement to the XJS as the other half of the summer fleet.
