My barge-to-be (8 year old CLS, 102k miles, owned from new and probably almost down to thread value now) was rear-ended by a Micra as I queued to leave the M6 this morning, sending it into the rear of an A6 Avant. I will be gutted if it is a gonner - I have never kept a car this long, but in part inspired by this thread, it has been subject to all sorts of additional maintenance with the intention of a good few years' use yet.

Damn and blast, but as r129sl said, only the wallet will suffer and we all drove away afterwards.

Commiserations to you from one feeling similarly hacked off.

I'm hoping I'll be back on the road this time next week. In the meantime, I'll just have to use the 129. Or buy another car. Tough, tough, tough...

I've had a call from the Micra's insurer (as has the Audi driver), Direct Line, admitting full responsibility, and I'm already in an E350 saloon courtesy car so hopefully the only bump in this road will be agreeing a value for the CLS if it is indeed written off.

Perhaps I can up the tempo on my SL500 search under some pretext or other to my wife.......

Typo on the price or a total scam, either way best avoided. Bet the phone number doesn't work and he will try to sucker people into paying a "deposit" upfront via email.... or some other trick to catch the greedy and stupid.

You'll need your eyes open really wide to see a car that doesn't exist. Seen a few of these on ebay: st description, stupid price and no feedback.

Hi all!

Haven't posted on my own fleet for a while (and now posting on an infernal 'hand-held' contraption so forgive the grammatical or other wobblies) but the 500SEC might soon be for the 'heavenly garage'.

I wanted to rearrange the cars recently so moved the sec and the R129 out of the driveway to put them back in in reverse order. Then reversed the SEC backwards into a telegraph pole at all of 5-6 mph.

Result is that the quote for repair is £5200 incl VAT!!! This is from small local independent not main dealer - but still includes such nonsense as £1,300 + VAT for boot lid and £670 + VAT for rear light unit etc - plus chrome trims plus paint etc etc - you get the picture!

It's quite heartbreaking after all the hassle I've had with the car and the fact that after 16 months I've finally got it sorted and running nicely - I was finally starting to warm to it - but that's that.

Obviously I could get it repaired much much cheaper than that but I've handed it over the insurance coy and am waiting for it to be written off. Although it was all sorted before the incident, the car has given me no pleasure whatsoever in the time I've had it and I just want to cut my losses and move on. £10 per mile?

I think it's time to take refuge in 1 x very nice W124 plus 1 x £1000 modern hatch/banger
