Jkelly, I think you're on the wrong thread! Nick, buying a seventeen year old V12 Merc without viewing it? What do you think I am, some kind of fool?!!
I think not; looking at it from the point of view of the people that task themselves with shifting such niche motoring icons, it is an impressive feat. Staring christmas in the face, he manages to sell the potentially unsellable Obviously me, you and the rest of the thread know it is an awesome purchase.
He wouldn't budge a penny from the asking price and even charged me £100 to deliver it, so he clearly wasn't desperate. I have it on very good authority (the indy that has looked after it for many years, including servicing and MOTing it less than two months ago) that it's a very proper example indeed and every bit as good as the advert suggests.

It's not "the one" - but it looks like a good entry to ownership, and should be easy enough to move on when I find my perfect bornite babe.

Update:
Vendor sold it before my old man pulled up.
Cue Dad awkwardly paying £800 back into his bank account 25 minutes later.
Not angry or annoyed or peeved.... just really really sad. Bad end to a bad day.
Cheer up chap! Was probably rotten etc. etc.Vendor sold it before my old man pulled up.

On the bright side, it might have saved you fixing up a car you never really wanted!

Promise me: you'll tell me when you want to off load it/you won't mention you're selling until it's gone.slippery said:

This 129 500 SL caught my eye. Maybe a bargain for one prepared to travel to the Province. Looks good in anthracite metallic.

This is 5 minutes down the road from me. It's just been detailed, and I believe it's had some paint to the wings (the detailer does my cars). Seen it around a fair bit and looks tidy.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-MERCEDES-SL-500-COU...
Well, I live 5 mins from the airport - I wonder will he collect me from there and save me a 70 mile trip . . . ?

If it's anything like as good as I remember my old W140 S500 to be, I don't plan to part with it too soon, but I suppose you never know. I can be a tad impulsive at times! slippery said:
