Well, I suppose you're right, you've got to give the st-eaters what they want! hehe

Only surpassed by the X6...which looks like the "turd" got prematurely squeezed and nipped off before it had fully "exited"...so to speak.

(can't beat a bit of toilet humour)

From that X5 ad
"WITH A PRIVATE NUMBER PLATE (JESS) WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE SALE."

More worryingly. "NEARLY NEW LANDSAIL TYRES ALL ROUND"

Absolutely not a selling point. A cherished example this is not.
Perfect tyres for a barge, surely? wink
I have to confess, my E38 728i Sport came with a pair of brand new Landsail tyres on the back when I bought it. Being a fully practicing Orthodox Bargist and given the cost of 255/45/18 tyres it would be completely against my religion to change them whilst there are many thousands of miles left on the them! smile
I had a look at the price of rear tyres for that X5 in the correct 315/30 R20. At £400 a pop for decent rubber, Landsails started to look a lot more attractive.

I might just be noticing something I have never noticed before, but the thick black perimeter to the rear screen on the light colour car looks very odd.

I briefly had a 3.0 version of this car in Quartz Grey and never noticed this before. Am I imagining it?

The black edging does look somewhat obvious from the angled shots, but less prominent from directly behind. Possibly just more obvious because of the lighter colour, and because now we're all looking for it!

Wasn't someone after an estate?

Or there's its older sibling for about the same price. Looks OK.

I was deterred by the wheels. Never got as far as internal pics.

I'm no expert but I believe the wheels are easier to change than the gearbox.

But you're right, they're wrong.

Depends on whether the gearbox really wants to change. This kind of thing has to come from within, we can only be there for support.

These are great cars but the styling is so crass and heavy handed that I don't think I would actually want to own one. The detailing in particular looks like the whole car was penned in an afternoon. I remember being horrified when it was revealed, I found it almost unbelievable it ever got signed off. Superb to drive though!

Disagree tbh, I think it'sa reasonable evolution of the x308 design. The facelift later on was tragic, with its range rover-style gills though!

No price now on the first advert; can we assume the mark-up is 100%?

Or more?

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
I went to drive it yesterday morning, got to grips a little more with the idrive and have the car a good 40 minute run along the A5 and through a couple of towns.

The engine is great and it feels like you're doing half the speed that you really are. Comfort seats are lovely, but they don't appear to be heated which is strange - not sure if this was an additional option, although I'm not sure why someone would go for comfort seats and not have them heated.

With regards to faults; I found the following;
-there was a "driver restraint fault" warning on the dash - not sure what that is
-the exhaust was rattling a bit at idle when warm - just sounded like a loose shield
-there was very minor shimmy through the steering wheel when braking from 80-odd
-I stopped the car for a bit, when I re-started, I put it straight to navigation and it said there was no disk, this resolved itself after 15 seconds

That's about it, the only other comment is that it rides a bit firmer than I expected - it was by no means harsh, but I could feel the road a bit through the seat; not something I expected.

The dealer has offered to sort the exhaust and the fault and I've arranged for an inspection by a BMW indie on Monday. I'll take it from there.

The older generation don't seem to like heated seats, I think it might be that they result in a similar sensation to a bout of incontinence.

That's the comment I've had from a couple of people well into their retirement, so when I see this odd spec combo I always assume that the first owner was a retiree.

The BMW 130i Limited Edition came with a fixed spec which involved unheated leather too.

I think the original ad was £2499 IIRC?
