Now THAT is nice. They really are absolutely massive too, aren't they! Even the SWB is over 5m long I think! To think this is 20cm longer than my E65 is comical! mccrackenj said:

Congratulations John!
Cheers Harry, as you know it's just what I've been looking for for ages, the only things that would make it perfect would be velour and the 3.0, instead of 2.6 - but those are mere details. I've finally got a willow green pre-Sacco saloon. Just a pity I sold the Almandine pre-Sacco 300TE; they would have made be a nice pair. Flight & ferry booked for 18th March. Just hope I make it home this time!
But which alloys will I fit as soon as I get it home - the 8 holes or the 15s? Obviously the 15s are correct but the 8s do look really good on an early car. Decisions, decisions.

15 holes for me too, John. Suit the car better somehow imho.
Re barn of dreams: if you're stuck, you can stick it in mine if needed. Slight detour, I know!
Thanks again for the offer Harry. I know it's genuine - but I'm trying to ignore it, otherwise it would be too easy to add another car on the basis that an existing one was for sale, and then end up with 4 old Mercs for an extended period, or 5. And the way things are going you'll soon run out of room in that barn anyway.Re barn of dreams: if you're stuck, you can stick it in mine if needed. Slight detour, I know!
One issue in the 15 Vs 8 debate; if you want to keep the car properly clean all the time - and I think the new acquisition will deserve that - then the 8 holes are a whole lot easier to live with.
Oh and forgot to add - that turbo 300E-24 and the 628CSi earlier. Wibble.
The 15s have a brand new set of Conti Premium Contact 5s fitted and the 8 holes have a nearly new set of Conti PC2s - so I could of course just chop and change every couple of months.
It currently has steels and correct period plastic trims, with winters already fitted. So I'm not messing around with those to fit the new Contis to steels and the winters to alloys etc.
Tell you all what I'll do: I'll fit the 15s and post a few pictures here (then revert to 8 holes and not tell anyone)

What happened?!

The bike breaking down and being a chore to get to work wasn't as bad as what went on with the Jag, mainly because there is nothing more disheartening than getting a car back from a garage and discovering it's got a fault it didn't go in with!

Luckily Chris, I wasn't hurt. Despite the fact I was absolutely shattered, I just managed to muster about enough energy to drive it home, and was feeling a second wind when the fault struck. It could have been quite dangerous, luckily it happened in the dry. The actual 'fish tail' wobble from side to side was quite violent and the tyres scrubbed as I pointed the wheel straight. In the wet, under the same cornering load, it could have broken into a spin! I was in Lane 2 overtaking an HGV at the time...

Strange one, especially if you've been using the car. If you've not been using the handbrake and perhaps the garage have used it when it was parked up?Blimey things have been busy in here over the last couple of days.
Baryonyx sorry to hear about your misfortune. These things do happen and at least you are safe (if a little irritated!).
mccrackenj that's a lovely looking thing, congratulations!
I like the colours and spec of the W124 twin turbo as well. I don't know how they would be with almost double the power and some turbo lag though - probably fairly lethal in the wet and hard on the brakes! If the condition is good it doesn't seem like a ridiculous price given the mileage and rarity.
I stumbled across this on my searches... definitely a bad idea, right? Not my usual sort of car, but a 5.5 litre V8 has appeal.
