Best smoker barges 1-5 large [vol8]

What kind of range do you get from the usual barge?
A 60 litre capacity (70 litre tank, ish) in a 2.4T V70, E320 and 4.0 XJS gets 275-310 miles in the first 2 and about 240-260 miles in the Jaguar. That tankful costs £27.
Note there is some petrol burnt in there too (at each start-up), so the picture is not quite as rosy as the figures above suggest. But it is still pretty rosy, IMO.
Definitely get the biggest tank possible.

Blimey things have been busy in here over the last couple of days.
Baryonyx sorry to hear about your misfortune. These things do happen and at least you are safe (if a little irritated!).
mccrackenj that's a lovely looking thing, congratulations!
I like the colours and spec of the W124 twin turbo as well. I don't know how they would be with almost double the power and some turbo lag though - probably fairly lethal in the wet and hard on the brakes! If the condition is good it doesn't seem like a ridiculous price given the mileage and rarity.
I stumbled across this on my searches... definitely a bad idea, right? Not my usual sort of car, but a 5.5 litre V8 has appeal.

The car that gave the lie to the claim that there are no bad cars any more.Baryonyx sorry to hear about your misfortune. These things do happen and at least you are safe (if a little irritated!).

Mercedes' darkest hour.
I remember hearing that there's two stories to the ML. Early ones are shocking, put together badly with extremely cheap components and were utterly ruinous.
Later on they sorted most of the components and had them put together properly (weren't they originally US-built, then they split production and built them with Magna Steyr?)

A very high spec 230 in a lovely colour - grey leather, alloys, air con. And only 42k miles. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C563721#

The second generation (2006 -2012) is supposed to me much better and is unibody(monococque) rather than the body on frame construction of the first generation. They did make them in Austria for a couple of years, but not since 2002. Most are made in the US but some are now made in India and there is also a factory making them in Indonesia wikipedia says.Later on they sorted most of the components and had them put together properly (weren't they originally US-built, then they split production and built them with Magna Steyr?)
I think these look lovely. In budget though 6 cylinders (how economical are these?) http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/231474025751?nav=SEARCH

They have that big GT car look down perfectly and those wheels suit them perfectly. I was looking at this 650 on AT yesterday and thinking it'd make for a lovely daily `(out of budget though). http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

Drive slower?
What level of economy is required? An E38 728i can be pretty frugal, as barges go, as can a Saab 9-5 Aero.

If things go to plan I'll be doing 12,000 miles or more a year and will have a bigger mortgage. \I\'d like something that could get 40mpg plus. My e91 325i is unlikely to do this!
I'd love to keep it/her as we're bonding well but it might be untenable. I need to get out a spreadsheet and see how much various options will save me.
I have visions of me in a Focus TDCi estate. Save me, save me!

That colour does it a LOT of favours. Very grown-up.None of the 'knob-on-a-mission' flavour of the specifications these often wear.

Same as a 530i. Anything between 20 mpg and late 30s depending on where and how you drive it. 0a said:

That has to be nearly as much car as you can get for 5k but my god you need some balls to be brave enough.Baryonyx sorry to hear about your misfortune. These things do happen and at least you are safe (if a little irritated!).

Same as a 530i. Anything between 20 mpg and late 30s depending on where and how you drive it. So I made my first car purchase of the year, a 400 quid Ford Focus, 1.8 Zetec 6 months mot and everything works safe for the Aircon.
It's not quite within thread guideline mind, but will tide me over while searching for a nice merc 190e sportline.
Ideally I'd like a 2.6 manual, but I think that may test my patience somewhat in waiting for one to appear, so what about an automatic version? One has popped up in County Londonderry - is anyone close enough to possible assist at all?
