I think these look lovely. In budget though 6 cylinders (how economical are these?) http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/231474025751?nav=SEARCH
Same as a 530i. Anything between 20 mpg and late 30s depending on where and how you drive it.
The 6 series is lovely, but those requiring use of the rear seats need not apply - they have less rear room than a 3 series coupe! It's all about the golf club space in the '6 (oh and the engine bay is huge too!)

I wonder what this will go for in the end http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-745i-SEPT-2015-MOT-F...

Not perfect, but £1,850 and ends today. The chap says he has no reserve and his reserve was only £2.5k last time and it finished at £2,411. A lot of car for the money if it ends in that area.

Apart from the missing mirror that actually looks quite straight.

At anything around £2k it would be a no brainer.

If I were still playing the shed game id have that, eek 10-15k miles out of it over 4-6 months with minimal investment and then consider it dead. Any further mileage would be pure bonus.
Wow. It's only the stupid hifi system that's fked, right? Rip it out and replace it with a standard double DIN hifi for £100. biggrin

That colour does it a LOT of favours. Very grown-up.

None of the 'knob-on-a-mission' flavour of the specifications these often wear.
laughlaughlaugh I like that phrase!

But then what flavour would you call this?

Christ, I thought 4 Star Classics had exaggeration tapped, but that is the most over-stated advertisement I've ever read. Knob on a mission. Like it.

While the smoke silver-ish 645i does indeed look OK in isolation, it looks rather less OK next to this:

"With appearance all over the UK under his belt and over an
estimated 25,000 signatures now applied, this BMW is now up there
with the Lichtenstein, Hockney and Warhol 'Art Cars of the 70's and
80's."

I disagree. It's just crap.

ETA, I've just found this link about it:
http://www.kilburntimes.co.uk/news/harlesden_man_l...

"During his travels to cities such as Birmingham and Milton Keynes he has persuaded a string of celebrities to sign his car – including hip-hop rap star Dappy,"

I love how they write that as if he made it as far as Tokyo or Johannesburg or somewhere.

That 02 745i finished at £1955.

Be interesting to see if it actually sells or gets relisted. Bloody bargain if it sells.

Sure to provide disgust and ridicule, with 4 cylinders, manual box and cloth but here goes

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-BMW-518i-SE-SALOON-...

Quality build, excellent handling and ride with good economy, very robust with its chain driven M43 engine, very underestimated...... Around town better than.a 520i in most respects

Or same era but the other end of the spectrum

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-740i-Auto-1994-Low-M...

Not that much detail, but an increasingly rare opportunity

Kind of a spin-off question to the above, do people mentally write off a certain value per month and base purchases around that? Taking the above example, on a £2k car, would equate to £333 a month 'depreciation'.

Or do folk base it on mileage?

I myself work on a monthly write off value of £100. So I'd expect a £1,200 car to last a year and anything more than that is a bonus. Just curious smile

For me all such maths is just to justify my purchase. I remember going to buy my a8 4.2 randomly on a Friday night because someone here said "it's aluminium so you could scrap it for £700" so once the required brakes were fixed I couldn't justify not buying the car...

The above 7 is exactly the kind of car I'd buy on a compete whim with man maths justifications laugh

So I made my first car purchase of the year, a 400 quid Ford Focus, 1.8 Zetec 6 months mot and everything works safe for the Aircon.

It's not quite within thread guideline mind, but will tide me over while searching for a nice merc 190e sportline.
Ideally I'd like a 2.6 manual, but I think that may test my patience somewhat in waiting for one to appear, so what about an automatic version? One has popped up in County Londonderry - is anyone close enough to possible assist at all?

Edited by KrisP on Saturday 28th February 18:00
Errrr, umm, hate to break it to you, but I sold an exceptionally good 71k 190e 2.6 Sportline manual about 3 months ago. Sorry.
