Stereo lighting. I wonder if it needs a feed from terminal 58 (lights on) to know to light up. An auto electrician would pick this up either from the climate controls bulb or the little cubby bulb ahead of the gearbox.
There'so a couple of grilles on EBay, I think. Your car should have a seven bar grille, late cars have six bars. But we're splitting hairs.

I think there are no hard and fast rules on facelifts. It is heresy to say this here, but in my view the facelift 124, with inset grille and clear indicators, makes the original look very clumsy - the early grille and the rest of the car seem a few decades apart, and gingers just don't do it for me. On the 129, even though I have a facelift car, I agree there is something "whole" about the early cars, gingers and all.

My view on facelifts is that the original is generally the car the designers and engineers have put their best efforts into and spent the most time considering every aspect of; whereas the facelift is the result of pressure from marketing to tart up the original to extend the life-cycle.Hence facelifts can often be better mechnically (economy, refinement etc) but are rarely better aesthetically.
It's sad, but one of the reasons I sold my E320T, which was a cracking car (sportline, air, cruise & leather), was that it didn't have a proper grille.

Maximum approval from here. If HRH Prince Charles drove a 124, I think this is the kind of modification he would have carried out. A bit like some of his suits and that ancient coat he wears. An for facelifts, I think the point is of general application and goes beyond cars. I far prefer the original 124 with no Saccos and no chrome at all save on the grille. What is the point of chrome inlays on the door handles and chrome trim strips on the top of the Saccos and around the bumper tops? It's just adornment for adornment's sake.
Will have to put the old 750 back on the road today, a month too early tbh, but atleast there is no snow and salt left on the ground, but it's raining today.... So insured and legal to drive on the road again, booked a time to my local BMW-stealership to do a code-reading thing to see what need to be sorted out regarding my fine running engine with its engine failsafe programme showing in the OBC. Wouldn't mind keeping it in the garage for a bit more, but I have a job interview I need to attend.
Last time, a week ago I had it running and took it for a spin around the block only to find an awful shudder on hard throttle, torque converter no doubt, took another spin later in the evening with a buddy of mine who is a BMW tech and no shudder to be found, so hopefully that was an isolated occurance... But with my string of bad luck recently the gearbox will most certainly need replacing, easily surpassing the value of the car.

But if (and IF) it looks and feels nicer, then what's wrong with that? I bet several early W124 owners would rather the pointed star sticking up from the end of the bonnet, rather than a small badge on the grille, or no badge at all..... Is that not adornment for its own sake? But it's a nice feeling, looking down the bonnet and seeing that pointed star there.... So it's nice to have. IMO. Early E38s also look too boxy and the front lights look pretty poor compared to the facelifted lights imo.
