Piece of string question. Less than a good early V8 is the only answer I can come up with.

I've seen good looking ones between 3 and 6 grand.

Remember though 'The SL500 is a masterpiece of beauty, power, smoothness, safety and convenience which cannot be put into words by any living poet.'

So you may have to pay a premium to get a dead poet to do one justice. biggrin

edit to add:

I'm not sure this one has been on the thread, I tried to post it some time ago but the phone upload failed. SL500 4750 pounds.

Have you done anything about that 190e 'over here' yet?

Buy it man, please! I'm having sleepless nights trying to resist going up to see it and ignoring the Ebay listing until it finishes on Sunday night. That interior!

Imagine the reaction at home if I bought another car before I'd even collected the latest wone? Mind you, a full set of C126, W201, W124 and R129 would be nice wouldn't it? Or would it just be a monumental ball-ache looking after them all, plus the wife's Jazz? The reality - of course - is that it would.

Maybe if I bought it secretely and stored it in Harrkul's barn until I sold either the SEC or SL?

"Just off to Coleraine for the day, dear. Why? No reason, honestly" followed by "just off to L/Derry for the day - going to see that PistonHead chappie with the barn I told you about. Why? Oh, no reason, honest, just fancy a day out"

Yeah, that'll work . . .
I'll get the kettle on biglaugh

Has this been on? Poor ad from a doubtless ropey suburban dealer, no pics of front seats/dash and suggestions that the driver's door might be a different shade... but other than that this looks splendid to me. Gold and brown leather - Paul Raymond-tastic! One owner too, and spent time in Cyprus which should have kept the rust at bay.

130k, £3,995.

I may be picky, but I'd hope that amount of currency would get you a car without holes in the bottom of the doors;

I had the X300 for 9 months, put 10000 miles on it, running costs included one DIY service, 2 tyres, an MOT, one fuse, one bulb, one header tank cap. It never missed a beat. Everything worked. I Paid £2700 and sold it for £2700.

That's marvellous motoring for peanuts.

Whatever could be next.....

Given it's a dog-leg box I'd say it looks like third.

I like the way the manual gets the ugliest gear knob in history - Mercedes telling you that they are only doing it so they can say there's a manual option in the range!

An interesting spec, a shame about the wheel and spoiler. The basics are good - 300e, 64k miles, unusual interior, looks to be in okay condition (described as 'supurb'. No AC and leather, and the rest of the 'add ons' count against it. £3k. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C590950

62k mile 750. Hard to value but up at £3k. I like the colour and the back seats look rather comfortable! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Oa - you were asking for paint shop recommendations a few days ago. I collected my CLS today - it has been in the repair shop for almost 5 weeks, but a great deal of that time has been spent waiting for MB to send parts from Germany, including a week waiting for a towing eye cover - but I could not be more pleased with the paint, and I'm a fussy bu@@er - I spent 30 minutes on the drive when I got back and cannot fault it. It has had the boot, rear wings, cant rails and bumpers painted, blending into the rear doors - and I literally cannot tell the difference anywhere. Most of their stuff is recent MB, but there is a beautiful 108 coupe being painted at present.

They are Prestige Vehicle Services in Sedgley, near Dudley - http://www.prestigevehiclespecialists.co.uk/index.... - no connection etc., but could not recommend them more highly. I doubt they are cheap but they are certainly good.

Thankyou very much for the recommendation Stegel. You can't beat a personal reference from a PHer.

I also had another kind recommendation via PM but I cannot find the post (I checked on my phone and believe I may have deleted it). It pointed to a company's facebook profile. Apologies for the lack of response and please feel free to send again !

Oof I like that.

I keep seeing a gunmetal grey (any BMW colour beards know the colour name?) 750iL near where I live in...around Southampton and Eastleigh.

Only thing I don't like is that ridiculous aerial!!

You do. My 1990 129 300-24 5-speed is waiting patiently for the salty roads to brighten up a bit. It's a fabulous machine.

Yeah, that'll work . . .
The trouble I have is that I've never tried a 190 and I really did want a manual. The car as a whole I like, the colour, the whole package, but the interior as you say is something else. (I did really want a cloth sportline to get away from the lack of heated seats that the majority of W201's and W124's have)
I'm going back to look at the pictures now...
Ah b@lls. I typed a long an hopefully informative response for you re leather Vs cloth vs heated vs electric and manual Vs auto etc etc - but it's gone?!

Maybe I'll try again, but gist is - if 2.6 then auto not manual for me. If no electric seat then cloth every time. Sportline checked cloth absolutely lovely. Sportline leather + electric + memory in a 190e 2.6 auto must be V V rare!

You really are singing that cars praises. Tell me more about the auto/manual contemplation
