Showed this ad to the Mrs last night. Considering I already have the SEC and the 320SL I expected short shrift; but her immediate reaction was "that's lovely;
why don't you just buy it?"
I hoped she would give me a bking at the mere suggestion, so now I'm studiously ignoring the ad until it finishes.

In a nutshell, you're winning at life. Carry on...
I like the look of this. Most other cheap phaeton (phaetii?) seem to be at small traders. In thread budget now too.

I had a similar conversation about a SL600 2 weeks ago. I now have one on the drive. I may have ignored the "provided you get rid of that rust bucket" qualifier. As my R129 has no rust I will claim, when questioned, that I didn't understand what she meant.
Ahh, 'rust blindness', an affliction of 'hankerers' everywhere I said:

I'm beginning to think you lot either chose more wisely,, or there's a trick I've yet to learn!Rocksteadyeddie said:

You have an sl600??? Let's have some pics then? I had to show some serious restraint not to go an auction a few weeks back where they had one, went for a little of 8k which wasn't bad IMOK

You do kind of have to buy it now...I'd love it, but it just isn't a runner. I've nowhere to put it (the 320 already lives on the street) and neither the 320 or the SEC get enough use as it is. If I'd had the 320 more than a couple of months I'd consider getting the 500 and selling the 320, but it's too soon to sell it, not to mention the wrong time of year.
I'd rather concentrate on getting the SEC sold in the Spring and replacing it with a minty pre-Sacco 260/300E before I start thinking of a 500SL.

Thanks r129 - just a pioneer head unit, nothing special. General audio is a later project!
This sounds rather interesting: www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C569882# £1,999
"A phenomenal, 1 lady owner from new, with Full Supplying Main Dealer Service History by Mercedes Benz!!!
Sadly her husband passed shortly after purchase so absolutely EVERYTHING was done by the supplying dealer, even wiper blade replacement, bless her!!"
Makes me feel like owning another 190. Ultra-low spec and colour combo appeal too! This sounds rather interesting: www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C569882# £1,999

After nearly 10 years living in Germany, I could live with Taxi-spec, but absolutely not Taxi-colour. [Although it's miles better than white.]
Ok...completely out of budget, off topic and more suited to the "What car have you been obsessing about today" thread but...
Can someone tell me why these appear to be so cheap? Granted, £11500 is still a lot of money but I remember back in the '80s a friend and I used to virtually press our noses up to the window of Jack Barclay's in Berkeley Square in the West End and look at things like this that were for sale for sums of money that just seemed unimaginable to us back then. I suppose much as current day new or nearly new Rolls Royces are today...maybe even more so because they'd be in the window for six-figure sums even back then when we were living on student grants of £3000/year.

I'm not sure exactly what I'd do with it other than just polish and stare at it but what a thing to have, huh?
(p.s It would be utter lunacy....wouldn't it? )

I think i'd want the 280bhp one at least - I realise that I should probably buy a car a little different from the w124 to run for a while. I do miss (slightly) the 4.2 v8 from the a8. Does the Lexus have an interesting v8 noise under load, or is it more the silent type?
Definitely the silent type in standard form, you should checkout YouTube to hear what they can sound like in non standard form, they can sound great but I think part of the LS experience is the fact they are so muted at any speed.

To be expected from that seller, formerly Oak River Cars/Ultimate 7 etc. CharlesdeGaulle said:

Me, or the vendor? If there were, this was my original PH name anyway...

I quite fancy a Shadow. I figure it would be great on the school run: it would have more "fk you" than all of the Porsche Cayennes and Audi Q5s put together.
