And I became a true bargist today, by placing an order for £3 at a local MB dealer, whilst being the scruffiest looking person there by a mile.
I do hope you didn't forget that there will be VAT payable on that £3 order once it arrives? MB dealers don't do "cash in hand"!http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C597280#

A mere 155k miles and £995 over budget. A very smart looking car for the money though. XJR:

80k mile XKR for £490 above budget - a negotiation away. What are the issues with these (rust?)

That BMW looks great. We're familiar with the 1970s French gangster and sort-of-folk-hero Jacques Mesrine? The subject of an extra-judicial killing by the Frog fuzz while at the wheel of a similar 528i? And a superb two-part film (bit long, really) directed by Jean-François Richet entitled Mesrine: Killer Instinct and Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 featuring a brown BMW of the same ilk? I really recommend the films.
Not so happy real life:
Wonderful period evocation:
And in moving pictures (we all fantasise about buying a new BMW like this, right?):

That looks good. I could live with silver although it wouldn't be my first choice.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...
My heart wants an XJS, but my head says an XK8 is the way to go. Obviously a much more modern car, they look fantastic, there's much more choice, and I suspect an XK would be cheaper to run, with fewer rust issues.
At thread budget, I'm not sure there's very much that's better for the modern-ish sporty GT fan.

The films were on TV last year, which is when I saw them. I agree, it is well worth watching. It is odd how people like Mesrine become almost a folk hero of sorts. I guess it is the excitement of a life without boundaries which attracts people. That BMW looks great. We're familiar with the 1970s French gangster and sort-of-folk-hero Jacques Mesrine? My dad had the E28 version in the early/mid 1980s. It was a fast car back then - and quite glamorous in its way.
To be honest though, it wasn't as good as the Granada 2.8 Ghia he had before it. Looking back on it, the big Ford was a better made and more comfortable car - even if it was quite slow in comparison. At the time I much preferred the BMW, but that was entirely down to its much better image which was important to me as a school kid.

Today I was enjoying an open sunroof and the theme to Miami Vice on cassette and wondering what a world must have looked like where 80s cars were brand new and German metal was rare and classy.

I was including the VAT in my costs! Two bolts/Washers for left/right sides of the front bumper, since I had to drill one out and the other one was a little brown compared to the rest of the immaculate hardware.dbdb said:

It's the the best quality leather of any car I've been in by a long stretch but I'm guessing people just don't care for it. I really don't clean mine that often (maybe a couple of times per year) but the drivers seat (which is by far the wost) doesn't look THAT bad. It's done just shy of 123k miles now.... There have been cars on here with fewer miles which look far worse. The quality isn't the best but I think most people must just really not care for the seats at all?
Which type of leather is in your E65, Ross? I had assumed the basic leather in the 7-series is better quality than that in the 3 or 5. I don't mind the Dakota in the 5, but the nappa in my old 545i felt far thicker and nicer, and still looked like this at 150k miles when I sold it:
Yes, it's a bit wrinkled but the only damage is the slight graze you can see on the bolster, and the squashed base bolster. Really hard wearing.

Viewed a R129 today. All good but heavily scuffed drivers bolster. How realistic is a 'as new' repair?
Entirely realistic. Any competent trimmer will quote you to replace the bolster (assuming the leather is actually worn through / split). The underlying foam may need replacement too if it's bean crushed down by some lardy type not getting in and out properly. If it's merely looking shabby and the structure of the underlying bolster is OK then it's a realistic DIY job.
