Does anyone have the bumper paint-code for pre-Sacco panelled W201/W124s? I'm normally good at finding the info I need, but this one is really eluding me.
They are self-coloured, i.e., unpainted, the plastic coming in the requisite shade of grey. I think if you had to paint some to match, you'd be looking for gallinit grey but I cannot find a code. They're available after market relatively inexpensively, I think. Like £100 a bumper.

I see. Thanks.

Not sure I want to replace the bumper given it's only a scratch, might have a closer look and see if it won't wet sand out, but I think a bit of paint in there would definitely help.{/quote]
From memory you need a matting agent to get the right blend, a decent car paint place would be able to mix it up for you. Not sure if it is worth it for a scratch though.

I was liking that until I saw it had no MOT. You'd have to be mental or prepared to break it.
Says it needs a new windscreen, it might be just that needed for a new MOT, but as you say a big gamble.

Well done. You have obviously progressed to advanced level barging if you can say "no" despite having the readies there. Was it a shed?
What put you off?
Every panel had bubbling, the interior was really scruffy. The horn was controlled by an override switch. I can go on...!
I've sent you an e-mail.

The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten! hehe

Just because some R129s are really low priced doesn't make them a good buy.

Either that's fag ash all over the dash or it's just covered in mud and detritus like the rest of the interior. 8 owners of a car like that does not bode well, and it's clearly been sat for a long time given the corrosion under the bonnet. It does not look loved....

Even if you were vaguely interested you'd want it taking to an independent MOT garage to make sure the screen was the only thing it failed on!

WBAC would give £2.5k which actually feels quite generous.

What do you guys think a 300e24 saloon is worth spares and repair?

Any specific parts worth money, eg engine?
If it has a five speed auto, that is worth something. They're quite rare (they were a cost option) and they break.

A leather interior in passable condition always has value. Ditto wheels and wood.

The engines are pretty worthless.

£300 to £500 seems to be the going rate for such a car in the Merc club, although it also depends where in the country it is.
The real value is in export. Any running 124 tends to be worth 500. My phone was off the hook when I sold my spares/repairs 230ce - I even had one African pretending he had won the ebay auction over the phone after he lost out hehe

Made some progress on returning the SL back to 'original' today. Replaced the nasty facelift grill...

The replacement has a few marks, picked it up on e-bay last week for £75 so can't complain and my eyes don't hurt looking at it. Only the indicators and number plates to go.

Any of you Mercedes guys know anything about this car? http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/classifieds-cars-sa... Or can offer an opinion in general. I've joined the forum to find out some more info, but I can't PM anyone as I've not build up the required post-count.

Thanks.

That interior really is nice. I'm not a huge fan of that shade of green, but that colour combo looks great. Car looks decent to me.

That interior is fab, quite rare too.

Benz bargers: does screen delamination mean rot underneath? I'm thinking of changing my screen shortly, instead of waiting to do it along with the bodywork next year. The answer to this question will determine the action.

+1. I can only think some people are so determined to stamp their "personality" (ahem!) on a car that any taste and sense flies out of the window.

No, not necessarily. My Coupe has some of the rear screen but the there is absolutely no rust in the rear shelf etc. I have only ever seen one C124 that didn't have some rear screen delamination...and that's because the screen had been replaced.

Looks miles better!

I have a vague recollection that the individual vanes on the grille might be available to buy from MB rather than having to buy a whole new grille if it's just a couple that are damaged on yours?

Corr blimey trousers that is the business. I love the light brown leather. It goes great with the green. I'm sure that car was sold by Avantgarde about eight years ago. It featured in a main article in Mercedes Enthusiast at about that time. None of the deficiencies strikes me as very serious.

Not always, but generally, yes. Often the corrosion can be very slight. It can be addressed by grinding out an then treating with a rust converter such as Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, then primed with a zinc-rich primer. All of this would be concealed behind the new screen. So not the end of the world. That said, a new rear screen for a coupé retails at £650.

Its actually on paving slabs but its hard to tell in the small picture, the gravel channel was to control water flow as it used to cause water logging.

The Porsche needs abit done( the alternator needs fixing as it no longer charges the battery after someone welded it) however it can't be moved from the garden until the merc is moved as its the only way in or out. So nothings been done on it for a while.

I'd say that's just been painted. They broke the bootlid trim and left a pot of touch up in the centre console. Been for sale a while. Don't know why it doesn't appeal. Location is not quite gravel or grass. And the air con is Diavia. smile

Derin recommended a bumper paint for these, which leaves a slightly textured finish. I used it on my 230TE with good results. I'll see if I can find his e-m when I get home and post a link here if I can.
Here's the link.
