I suspect this may be considered a bit too gauche but I like the look of this so much I'm sorely tempted to make the (very long) journey to view:

..So did you view it.?

I'm a big fan of GS300 Sports, at least from an aesthetic point of view. I can remember my reaction and curiosity when I first spotted one. Those wheels are some of the best OEM alloys ever.
Negative. So few come up for sale, let alone in decent condition, it's hard to value. Just can't commit to the potential 600 mile trip if it doesn't work out as hoped.

Agree regarding the alloys. Easy to clean too!

One of them with timing chain tensioners already done must be high up on the value for money scale.
Cracking cars, but if you're already fuelling a V8 why not get an R? They fall very much in a grey area of desirability for me, although they are lovely (and a shape which continues to look more gorgeous as time goes on, just like the XJS).

It might be just my paranoia...but has that car got two different pattern tyres on the front but furthermore normal/non-metric wheels on the front and 'Black-line' TRXs on the back?!

A nice, 12500 mile 530i for only £20,000

I'm pretty open minded regarding values but, really, £20,000 is a little on the strong side.
It actually makes that GMS E38 740i look cheap!

I guess either they haven't seen it...or they're just hoping they're potential buyer hasn't seen it? Which would be unlikely.

Appearing on my radar today :-

The C-Class piqued my interest, as I never knew they did a 240 version.

They sure did. I had one a couple of years ago. I bought it with 12K miles on the clock and sold it with 14K miles:

I spent a few days in Hamburg this week and was heartened to spot four of five W124s still being used as Taxis and still looking good. Must have had moon miles by now as well.
Doesn't echo my experience last year I'm afraid - did a 600km loop to the east of Stuttgart in May for work, staying in Ochsenfurt overnight - saw nothing of that ilk on the road, and a single W124 and W126 during our overnight stay. We had three days in Stuttgart in December and saw one private W124 - some of the taxis outside our hotel were Kias for heaven's sake! Quite disappointing, particularly given it's MB's home. Perhaps they only come out on sunny weekends?
I think Stuttgart has LEZ ( Low Emission Zone) so old diesel Merc taxis are probably banned.

Very smart looking thing!

Can I ask what the driving experience is like with those C240's? As a comparison, my current daily is a E39 530d and that Merc is only half an hour away to look at.

Run of the mill, old 5 series for section-warranting money. Just who are the potential buyers for such a thing?
Money launderers?

It was surprisingly quick and smooth. I live in a fairly rural location and it was very easy to drive in a hustling-along fashion around country lanes etc.

This came at an equally surprising slight thirst! drink

laugh

The interior felt very well put together and because mine had such low mileage exposure it didn't have any rust at all.

The couple who bought from me (local MB Club Members) quickly doubled the mileage (not difficult!) but I think they're very happy with it. In fact, he dropped off a book about ACs for us the day before yesterday whilst I was at work.

Hmmm....AC?

I think there are a couple of Mora E38's on AT, they could be sheds though.
Yep one of them is a shed and the other one in manchester I spoke to but he said he needed to call me back but never did. I might chase up on that one but wouldn't be able to get up there until the weekend. I think that one sounds OK, couple of bumper scuffs be he states they have done some suspension work on it and 12months MOT so might be worth a look

It has!

Furthermore, you'd really want the '35i.
Thanks guys, I can rest easy and not phone him smile

735i would have easily swung me into action

I guess the attraction was that it was basically like a brand new Merc for a fraction of its brand new cost? I did consider doing one of two things:

A)Keeping it for years as a daily runner because it was so 'new' and it would have lasted me for years!
or
B)Keeping it in pristine condition and doing concours events.

The trouble was it was a bit "boring" and so I probably would never have been able to stick to Plan A. Then if I'd started to put miles on it I would have quickly shaved value off it.

Plan B was probably never going to be a go-er either. It turns out that the MB Club would have dock it points in any concours event simply because the mileage was so low. I would have been starting from behind the rest of the field each time! Plus, I could never really be ar$ed with concours events anyway.

So, I just sold it for what it owed me.

I can see where your coming from about the concours thing. An acquaintance had (maybe still has as I haven't bumped into in a while), an Escort Mexico. It was nice and in superb condition. But if he drove it anywhere he claimed it took two weeks to properly clean it all. I used nod and say all the right things at this point but couldn't help thinking the man was insane. Nice car though and certainly a good investment.

Concours is for the mega-rich really - get someone else to spend weeks cleaning it up before the competition. biggrin
