I go away for a week and there's all these BMWs appear. I rather like this 280 with leather, though it would need to be re-ambered.

In my quest to stay away from a E39 M5 its either a 540 or something like this that tickles my fancy.

I love these cars, but that looks every single on of it's 20 years in that photo. A bit shocked just how dated it looks in fact!

46,000 miles and three owners isn't ideal either.

Over budget, but what an interesting colour. Could I get away with gold? Probably not. A brave choice to order new! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

£895 car with nearly a full MOT cannot 'wallet rape' anyone. If it breaks in any significant way you just scrap it... probably get back £150 scrap value as well.
edit: those wheels alone would go for a couple of hundred.
That is a lot of car for £900. Say it lasts a year and you part break/trade in for scrap, it's cost what, £50 a month? With that history and a £1000 rainy day fund, I'd guess it would last another 50k miles...
It's not a lot of money in the scheme of cars but I wouldn't want to chuck £750 down the drain.

I'll go against the grain and say I dont think I would bother with that one. I picked my 100k 535 up from the second owner for £1000.

No announcement yet! It's been a while since I had a proper collection trip so I'm rather looking forward to it.

I like it from the front and side. The painted bumpers at the back are just too much though.

A short ad, but only £1k

"Very good bodywork and black leather interior. 3.5 petrol .109000 miles. It was my fathers car and was regularly driven just over a year ago but not used since then....."

Talking of collection trips, I went the entire length of the M4 and then some by train Monday afternoon then drove all the way back in this:

It's a 2000 530i auto, 130k miles. It's got a dent in the rear bumper and one across the rear wheel arch; quite a few stone chips on the front (more obvious because they've all been Krusted but not painted); the rear sills/bottom of the arches are starting to go and have been #cough# "tidied" a bit. PDC is u/s, one or more sensors out I guess (I don't care though). There's a good few pixels missing on the dash (ribbon ordered) and more on the stereo (single DIN fascia adaptor arrived today). One very squeaky wiper blade. Finally, the only slightly expensive bit - the front pusher fan isn't working, so I've ordered a new one.

Otherwise, reasonable amount of history, 3 weeks short of year's MOT, everything else seems to work (including reverse...), light grey leather interior, the rear tyres are good, the fronts OK for now. It's got working chunky old car phone, too! Niiiiice wink

It ran in perfect comfort and with little effort back around London and along the length of the M4, mostly on cruise.
I like.

And the price? £1350. As my B-in-L said, it'd have been rude not to wink
So long as it runs for a year, I'll be happy (the stuff above is normal maintenance on any car in my book); any more and I'll consider myself quids in. I was half and half if this ought to be in the bargain basement thread instead!

Sensors can be bought on ebay for far cheaper than what a dealer charges. Requiring painted ones might be more of a faff, mind.
