Probably not a sensible proposition in a financial sense, but if it could talk I bet it'd have a great story to tell.

It can talk via onboard diagnostics and its saying 'Help me, my gearbox is knackered' biglaugh

£2.2k (with reserve still not met) + circa £1500 for a gearbox rebuild - You can get a runner for lesss, no?
Maybe he spotted this and is pricing accordingly.

Almost certainly the wrong question, but what would a real world MPG for that CLK 430 be? I must be mad but I really like it, and a great advert too.....
I'd work on the basis of high teens about town and low 20's average. On a run up to 30mpg.
My E430 averages 24 but 30 is easy on a run. Pathetic round town so I try not to but it is quite a civilised thing in traffic.
My '55 showed an average of 24.5 for the entire time I owned it.

LPG it and teach owners of 1.4 Puntos lessons in parsimony.

I agree with you three. It's just wrong for some reason. A bit too blobby. I think the skirts and bumper treatments don't help; nor does the presence of a 'B' pillar. It does look better in dark colours; and the AMG version looks neater, too. The C124 was the last really handsome Merc coupé. The 215 CL is almost there but the fiddly detailing lets it down.
I agree with darker colours working more successfully, but I'm actually coming full circle with the C208 (and indeed the first SLK) having really disliked their appearance a few years ago but gradually warming to them. With the CLK my growing fondness for the design is perhaps driven by the really unsuccessful concept - what has been seen, cannot etc.. One of the few concepts from MB ever to be bettered by production:
Lucky I haven't had dinner yet.
Funny really, I always though the CLK was a handsome car, one of the cars I'd take another look over my shoulder at as I walked away when I'd parked it. I doubt decent ones will depreciate much more either, I sold mine for £2450 a couple of years ago and as long as it's been looked after, I'd imagine it's still worth that. Colour and wheel choice makes a difference though.

If it had been a V8, I'd probably have kept it.

Mix this with the Mora car with a broken headgasket and you can have one 750iL, one V12 coffee table and one ZF5HP30 gearbox as a plant pot!

About to fly South to see the family - I'm not travelling by w124 this week as fingers crossed I will be driving back on Monday (after another 3 trains) with a new-to-me car smile

I suspect that might be a safe bet.

I'm not so sure - could be a left field choice.

Brave purchase, that. Rusty arches, leaky radiator, poor LPG filler placement (you'll get filthy every time), from Bradford and has warning lights on.

That's a really well-written ad, and a nice-looking car. Great colour too.

Interesting that he's struggling to sell it at shed money. The car for a grand, a few hundred cleaning and smartening, and that would be a cracking ever-lasting runabout.
