SL500 for £3150?

Over 200000 miles and few months MOT, but the car looks great from the pictures.

As a slight aside - E65Ross is now doing outstandingly well and looking to raise £10k (£5k done easily!) as he's back on his feet after a brain tumor.

If you know or have heard of E65Ross you'll know he's a core barge £1-5k-er and we've veered far too much over to Mercedes without his passion for BMW E65s (he's the only one).

Take a quick look:

His health thread:

Fair play to Ross. I'll donate. Glad he's doing better. smile

That's flipping epic but I've only recently bought an xj6.

However If it remains around the starting price I might not be able to help myself. I have a weakness for purple.

Gosh, that's ace.

Old Mercs of this type manage the clever trick of being lovely, no matter how tatty and crap an example it might actually be.

Rovers also manage this trick, but I reckon Jaguars and BMWs don't.
My old fin tail, bought in 1997 and ran in this condition for 3 years.
Taught me a thing or two about 1960's Merc engineering.

Loving Oa's R129 purchase.
Was considering these for a while, but I missed the boat and the prices went above what I wanted to pay.
Hence the recent XJR.

Perfect example! That is exactly what I was getting at. I would just love to lummox around in that.
In the same vien, somebody PLEASE buy this before I end up with 4 cars and no GF. £999. £999.....FFS. I spent more than double that servicing my '55......

Yes, saw that on the budget thread, unbelievable. But it has to be a potential money pit, tyres, exhausts, discs and rear suspension all very expensive and at this mileage something must need doing. But so tempting.

Very cool. I'd love to turn up somewhere in that.

Also, looks like those pics were taken in the set of Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels..
Fantastic. Citroen are another one that can look just as good tatty as smart.

Now imagine a BMW in the same condition. Just wouldn't work.

very aware of the costs. B service is £500 straight out of the blocks, 16 plugs is £400, disc can be £150 each (although weirdly on the clk were £55!), wishbones on the CLK were £200 each

that said. the noise.... the NOISE!! miss the CLK for that one thing. God it was good. Even without LPG mine did 25mpg!

If you went into that with run it until the MOT is due and then break it, you'd almost get the purchase price back for the alloys. Mine is still on the standard exhaust (stainless), disks used to be very, very expensive but now heavily discounted by Mercedes so no more expensive than any other e-class really.

Sorry to burst the bubble chaps... I just phoned him (he's a dealer, not private) and told him, "do not sell it! I want it and will pick it up tonight for that price"

His reply in an Indian accent: "Oh sorry mate, it's actually meant to be £2999, not £999"

"Goodbye"

I was just thinking the same, but I've only recently bought an xjr.

Lovely leather compared to the Jags, and the Solar wheels really suit the car.
Plus it's called a 'Super V8'

Will see if I can find some old pics of the (equally tatty) Citroen CX I ran after the Fin Tail.

The Solar wheels are definitely my favourite X308 wheel. Mine has Eclipse wheels fitted, but the Solar is my favourite look. One thing that I never particularly liked about the Daimler cars (as I like everything else about them) is that trim on the boot handle, the patterned effect doesn't suit the car. Otherwise, it's beautiful!

your box caput?

I have a lovely S124 300-24 idea
Box fine. Diff went and replacement was sold to me as an XJR where it's actually a 3.2 which is longer.

This means the car pull away in first, changes to second, gets confused and now locks it in a long second gear. You are then left with a car which, while stuck in one gear, will still beat 90% of stuff from the lights and go on to over 100mph (not that I've driven it much)

Should probably sort it but lost passion. 2000 XJR, 65k miles, poor paint but otherwise cool as fk. Oh, and one gear.
That's a bugger, price?

As an alternative I'd be prepared to take the job on for free in exchange for a month-or-so's custodianship. smile

The s124 failed to complete a journey for the first time yesterday, in mitigating circumstances though.

Just picked it up from getting an oil leak cured that involved a fair bit of stripping down. Drove 3 miles and came to a set of lights, went to go from the lights and it cut out. After about an hour of the mechanic fiddling at the roadside we discovered an issue with the loom where it goes through the bulkhead. banghead

Wiggling the wires when running will cut it out. It was actually booked to sort it properly next week, so a patch up job today once the offending wire is found.

It's typical that this happens when its the only car I have that's currently on the road- the joys of barging.....
