The temp guage is perhaps reading a little high though.
Temperature is ok. The electromagnetic clutch for the cooling fan on the M102 engine won't cut in until the temp reaches 100 degrees.

Very nice find! That particular interior looks completely impervious to even the most determined of child's efforts to destroy it.

Almost identical to the interior on mine!
Lovely.

What mpg could one expect of one of these? I quite fancy one as a daily smile
I got about 30, without much sitting in traffic.

The temp is certainly sitting a bit higher than mine ever did.

I'm getting around 300-350 from a £65 fill-up. Although mine is a 300-24

Same colour as my daily driver s class. Mine has dirtier fuel though...

The car above is poverty spec short wheel base with not a single option in sight. Boot lid badges missing, front number plate plinth gone and a weird dent in the rear bumper.
Add to the above that you can get a good 500 for similar money which will be better spec'd, better performance and will return similar MPG.

Stick some 18" Difdas on this and it could be a lovely package. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2015...

These are amazing barges though. I currently have a W124 200E and a 2004 S320cdi as daily drivers. I don't know what more I need in life?

Bloody hell, that link just ruined my lunch-we've had a 2003 s500 from new. With only 33k it's barely above thread limits, meaning £57k in depreciation. eek

Glad I wasn't paying, and exactly why I'll never buy a new car. Well, outright at least.

Have you seen BMW's press campaign celebrating 40 years of the three series? I am sure I am not alone in thinking that the product has only got worse as time has passed. The E21 looks like a masterpiece; the F30 a dog's dinner.

I quite like the adverts, but the thing I find annoying is that the year of registration of each of the cars is not the same as the year quoted at the top of each of the adverts.

Sorry! Will you ever part with the car? If not, don't worry what it's value is...just drive it.

It's funny, my SL (identical in colour/year to that one) has the 12 spoke wheels which I wasn't keen on- I really fancied a set of the 8 spoke rims. 20 months on from buying it and they've really grown on me to the point where I'm looking for a decent set to replace the current ones. I like the understated look (not at all keen on AMG/ bigger versions)-keeping them clean stops them looking too drab. We're all different though and I get why some would want to change them. Great cars all round.
Snap with regards colour here too, and agreed on great cars.

I won't hijack the thread again with wheel talk, but have you thought about getting your existing wheels refurbed rather than replaced? If you were not bothered by the polished rim (to be frank I think it would look better without it) powder coating would only be circa £35 per wheel. A photo off eBay of a wheel so treated that I saved when umming and ahhing over the 12 spokes:

Not sure if you or anyone else on the Volvo forum would be interested in a set of Volvo snow chains?

I'll need to check the exact size (although I can't do it before Fri night) because I don't recall if I bought them from Volvo for a V70 or an XC90.

Free to anyone that can collect. Cost of delivery for anyone that can't. Located near Farnborough. Otherwise destined for the tip prior to a house move.
To clarify, the snow chains fit any car with these tyres/wheels

195/65 - 15
205/65- 15
205/65 - 16
215/55 - 16
225/50 - 16
225/45 - 17
235/45 - 17
235/40 - 18

Available for nothing if anyone wants them.

A cheap 750... a little negotiation would get it down to £2k...

Oil pressure looks a touch high for a warm engine as well, no?

Either way this is a good area to buy from, right on the borders of a very well-moneyed and retirement area. My parents are about 5 miles away, I could pop up and take a look next weekend as I'm heading over if anyone fancies it and needs a preliminary.

I quite like the look of this 300CE coming up at Anglia next month:

It would need re-ambering, but could be a good buy for a couple of bags if it looks nice.

Pretty sure it's got the wrong wheels on too- they look like the facelifted versions.

Anglia seem to get a lot of interesting metal through their doors, don't they?

That 190 looks lovely.

Would it be remotely possible to run one of these as a daily driver, or is that a ridiculous idea? I only 'need' to drive 12 miles a day and have other cars.

Look at the interior!

If you have other cars then no car is impossible imo, but a Series 3 should be very doable. Cars like that benefit from regular use, so it's ideal really.

Why are they so cheap? Good examples with low miles are in thread budget (going by the ads anyway). Were there a lot made (and surviving)? Or is is just the type of car - 4 door, large engined?

I believe rust is quite a big issue with them, although I think it's because Jag saloons have never been cool as classics. Top that with being thirsty and very retro-looking now, and I can see why they're cheap.

Things I require of my old cars:

Yeah, they've had a refurb by the previous owner who then managed to kerb them again. I'd like to start with a fresh set really, since they don't seem universally popular maybe I'll find a bargain! Agree, thread needs to go back on track.

That car is not far from me and pretty much what I'd like to replace the Rover with when the time comes. Why do these things appear when the time hasn't come yet? The body work looks good; can anyone else see anything wrong with this? The interior looks very tidy but the lack of buttons on the dash makes me think it's pretty low spec? Seems at odds with the leather interior.

I'll get approximately tuppence h'penny in trade in for the Rover and that's if they actually accept it in trade in. You can guarantee that when I'm looking for a car when the Rover dies Autotrader et al will be a barren wasteland!

As someone mentioned, this area of Lancashire would be a great place to buy such a car, plenty of old money knocking about.
